Cost of upper tract imaging obtained during hematuria evaluation: Analysis of a national claims database
CONCLUSIONS: In this nationally representative analysis, hematuria evaluation confers a significant cost burden, while the primary factor associated with higher costs of screening was imaging type. Based upon reduced cost of US-based strategies, further investigation should delineate its cost-effectiveness in the diagnosis of urological disease.PMID:38679529 | DOI:10.1016/j.urolonc.2024.03.008 (Source: Urologic Oncology)

Altered Cortical Thickness and Structural Covariance Networks in Chronic Low Back Pain
CONCLUSIONS: From the regional cortical thickness to the complex brain network level, our study demonstrated changes in the cortical thickness and topological properties of the SCNs in patients with CLBP, thus aiding in a better understanding of the pathophysiological mechanisms of CLBP.PMID:38679110 | DOI:10.1016/j.brainresbull.2024.110968 (Source: Brain Research)

Time Course of Asymptomatic Stenosis in Multiple Lumbar Spinal Stenosis-Five-Year Results of Selective Decompression of Symptomatic Levels
Conclusion: Patients with asymptomatic L3-4 stenosis on preoperative MRI were not prone to develop new symptoms or need additional L3-4-level surgery within 5 years after surgery when compared to patients without preoperative L3-4 stenosis. These results indicate that prophylactic decompression for asymptomatic levels is unnecessary.PMID:38674282 | PMC:PMC11052377 | DOI:10.3390/medicina60040636 (Source: Medicina (Kaunas))

Socioeconomic and Other Risk Factors for Retear after Arthroscopic Surgery for Nontraumatic Rotator Cuff Tear
Conclusions: Age, initial tear size, and symptom duration significantly affect retear risk after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. Occupation and type of medical insurance were also risk factors for retear. Socioeconomically vulnerable patients may be at a greater risk of retear. Proactive efforts are required to expand early access to medical care.PMID:38674286 | PMC:PMC11052191 | DOI:10.3390/medicina60040640 (Source: Medicina (Kaunas))

Peak Resembling N-acetylaspartate (NAA) on Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy of Brain Metastases
Conclusions: The identification of a prominent peak at 2.0 ppm could be a valuable diagnostic marker for distinguishing single ring-enhancing lesions, potentially associated with mucin-expressing metastases, offering a new avenue for diagnostic specificity in challenging cases.PMID:38674308 | PMC:PMC11052432 | DOI:10.3390/medicina60040662 (Source: Medicina (Kaunas))
