A new intestinal supplement 'Synbiotics' therapeutically regulates gut microbiota and activates PPARs pathway to inhibit Alzheimer's disease progression in mouse models
New Microbiol. 2024 May;47(1):68-79.ABSTRACTWe aimed to investigate the role of Synbiotic preparations on the interaction of gut microbiota with AD development. APP/PS1 mice were randomized into APP/PS1 and Synbiotics groups, and C57BL/6J mice were used as wild type (WT) control group. The mice in the Synbiotics group and the APP/PS1 group were given Synbiotics and xylo-oligosaccharides for 3 months, respectively. The mice in the WT group were given the same amount of normal saline. Cognitive function was measured. Positron emission computed tomography/magnetic resonance imaging (PET/MRI) was used to detect fasting blood g...

MRI reporting radiographers - Has there been a progression or regression in numbers and scope of practice?
The aim of this study was to determine whether there had been a progression or regression in the numbers and scope of practice of reporting radiographers in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) in the United Kingdom (UK), using data from a previous study conducted by the author in 2019/20 as a comparison. Cardiac solitary fibrous tumor - an extremely rare but potentially fatal diagnosis
Kardiochir Torakochirurgia Pol. 2024 Mar;21(1):39-42. doi: 10.5114/kitp.2024.138574. Epub 2024 Mar 30.ABSTRACTThe background of this review is a description of the case of a 28-year-old man with an extremely rare cardiac solitary fibrous tumor (SFT). Although this tumor was removed surgically and in the 6-month follow-up examination no relapse was noted, recurrence was observed and confirmed in the magnetic resonance imaging 4 months later. SFT prevalence, symptoms and signs, treatment options and prognosis are reviewed.PMID:38693991 | PMC:PMC11059014 | DOI:10.5114/kitp.2024.138574 (Source: Polish Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery)

Characterization of cells expressing lipocalin-2 (LCN2) as a reporter
Biochem Cell Biol. 2024 May 2. doi: 10.1139/bcb-2024-0013. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLipocalin-2 (LCN2), an effector molecule of the innate immune system that is small enough to be tagged as a reporter molecule, can be coupled with the ferric ion through a siderophore such as enterobactin (Ent). Mintbody (modification-specific intracellular antibody) can track a posttranslational protein modification in epigenetics. We constructed plasmids expressing the LCN2 hybrid of mintbody to examine the potential of LCN2 as a novel reporter for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Cells expressing the LCN2 hybrid of mintbody showed ...

Evaluating complete response prediction rates in locally advanced rectal cancer with different radiomics segmentation approaches
CONCLUSION: Although the highest AUC result is obtained from the tumor segmentation, the highest accuracy and sensitivity are detected with tumor+mesorectum segmentation and these findings align with previous studies, suggesting that the mesorectum contains valuable insights for CR. The lowest result is obtained with CTV segmentation. More studies with mesorectum and pelvic nodal regions included in segmentation are needed.PMID:38694706 | PMC:PMC11061551 | DOI:10.3389/pore.2024.1611744 (Source: Pathology Oncology Research)
