Pediatric torticollis: clinical report and predictors of urgency of 1409 cases
ConclusionOur study shows that an urgent condition most commonly occur in patients presenting with history of trauma or headache, vomiting and torticollis for more than 24  h should undergo further diagnostic evaluation and short-term follow-up, restricting invasive or expensive investigations to patients with clinical suspicion of an underlying harmful condition. Health-related quality of life, work ability and disability among individuals with persistent post-dural puncture headache
ConclusionThis study stresses the burden of pPDPH in terms of substantial disability, limited quality of life, mental health concerns, and significant impact on the ability to work. The study highlights the long-term impact of pPDPH on individuals, emphasizing the need for timely diagnosis and effective treatment. It underscores the complexity of managing pPDPH and calls for further research into its long-term effects on patient health and HRQoL. (Source: The Journal of Headache and Pain)

Female-selective mechanisms promoting migraine
AbstractSexual dimorphism has been revealed for many neurological disorders including chronic pain. Prelicinal studies and post-mortem analyses from male and female human donors reveal sexual dimorphism of nociceptors at transcript, protein and functional levels suggesting different mechanisms that may promote pain in men and women. Migraine is a common female-prevalent neurological disorder that is characterized by painful and debilitating headache. Prolactin is a neurohormone that circulates at higher levels in females and that has been implicated clinically in migraine. Prolactin sensitizes sensory neurons from female m...

Psilocybin therapy and anorexia nervosa: a narrative review of safety considerations for researchers and clinicians
ConclusionEarly evidence suggests that psilocybin therapy is well-tolerated in individuals with AN. Understanding the unique medical complications of AN, and how they may be impacted by common physiologic adverse effects of psilocybin administration, leads to tailored risk mitigation strategies to enhance safety and tolerability of this novel intervention. Adverse events in biologics for severe asthma
CONCLUSION: Biologics for severe asthma are recent drugs with a favorable safety profile, but with little real-life experience, justifying increased vigilance by prescribing physicians.PMID:38653607 | DOI:10.1016/j.rmr.2024.04.001 (Source: Revue des Maladies Respiratoires)

Changes in Physiological Traits, Gene Expression and Phytochemical Profile of Mentha piperita in Response to Elicitor
The objective of this research is to investigate the expression of essential genes in the menthol pathway of Mentha piperita, including Pulegone reductase (Pr), Menthofuran synthase (Mfs), and limonene synthase (Ls) using qPCR, physiological analysis and essential oil composition in response to methyl jasmonate (MeJA) (0.5 mM) elicitation. Physiological analysis showed that 0.5 mM MeJA triggers defensive responsiveness in Mentha piperita by increasing superoxide dismutase (SOD) and Peroxidase (POD) enzymes activity. The highest transcript levels of Pr and Mfs genes were observed during 8 and 12 h after treatment respective...

Implications of high homocysteine levels in migraine pain: An experimental study of the excitability of peripheral meningeal afferents in rats with hyperhomocysteinemia
CONCLUSIONS: Our results demonstrated higher excitability of the trigeminal system of rats with hyperhomocysteinemia. Together with our previous finding about the lower threshold of generation of cortical spreading depression in rats with hyperhomocysteinemia, the present data provide evidence of homocysteine as a factor that increases the sensitivity of the peripheral migraine mechanisms, and the control of homocysteine level may be an important strategy for reducing the risk and/or severity of migraine headache attacks.PMID:38650105 | DOI:10.1111/head.14710 (Source: Headache)
