Investigating the safety and feasibility of osteopathic manipulative medicine in hospitalized children and adolescent young adults with cancer
CONCLUSIONS: Hospitalized children and AYAs with cancer received OMT safely with decreased pain in their reported somatic dysfunction(s). These findings support further investigation into the safety, feasibility, and efficacy of implementing OMT in the pediatric oncology inpatient setting and to a broader inpatient pediatric oncology population.PMID:38669608 | DOI:10.1515/jom-2024-0013 (Source: Pain Physician)

The Great Imitator Masquerading as Autoimmune Hepatitis and Demystifying as Fulminant Syphilitic Retinitis
CONCLUSION: Acquired syphilitic hepatitis is rarely reported. Administering steroids potentially aggravated the infection. The characteristic features of placoid chorioretinitis and punctate inner retinitis connected the pieces of the puzzle together to the diagnosis of ocular and neurosyphilis. Intrahepatic cholestasis with negative serological panel of hepatotropic pathogens should raise the suspicion of non-hepatotropic pathogens especially syphilis.PMID:38669600 | DOI:10.1080/09273948.2024.2345290 (Source: Ocular Immunology and Inflammation)

Comprehensive Insights into Pediatric Craniopharyngioma: Endocrine and Metabolic Profiles, Treatment Challenges, and Long-term Outcomes with a Multicenter Approach
CONCLUSION: Recurrence was predominantly due to incomplete resection and the low rate of postoperative radiotherapy. It also emphasized challenges in multidisciplinary regular follow ups and suggested early interventions such as dietary restrictions and increased exercise to prevent obesity.PMID:38664994 | DOI:10.4274/jcrpe.galenos.2024.2024-1-3 (Source: JCRPE Journal of Clinical Research in Pediatric Endocrinology)

Triptan use in elderly over 65 years and the risk of hospitalization for serious vascular events
ConclusionThe incidence of acute vascular events was low among triptan users. We found that triptan use among older may be associated with a low increased risk for acute vascular events, which may be more marked for cerebral events such as stroke, than for cardiac events. Paracentral acute middle maculopathy and cotton wool spots in a patient with ocular migraine: A case report
In this study, we report paracentral acute middle maculopathy (PAMM) and cotton wool spots (CWS) in a patient with ocular migraine. A 74-year-old man presented with persistent paracentral scotoma in the right eye that began a week prior. His visual acuity was 20/25 in the right eye and 20/40 in the left. Dilated fundoscopy revealed CWS in the right eye. Spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) showed hyper-reflective bands in the inner nuclear layer corresponding to parafoveal lesions seen on near-infrared imaging in the right eye consistent with the diagnosis of PAMM. Further laboratory studies were unremarka...

Blood serum levels of PACAP and migraine onset: A systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies
CONCLUSION: There is a very low certainty of evidence suggesting that the PACAP level is negatively correlated with migraine disease duration of adults with migraine and it varies greatly among different periods of migraine of both adults and children with migraine.PMID:38659322 | DOI:10.1111/head.14711 (Source: Headache)

Simultaneous occurrence of transient global amnesia and Takotsubo syndrome triggered by caring for a terminally ill relative
Key Clinical MessageTakotsubo syndrome and transient global amnesia can occur simultaneously, not only in the context of acute but also long-standing emotional stress. Probably, hypothyroidism and migraine make the patient more susceptible to both of these disorders. (Source: Clinical Case Reports)
