Changes in Physiological Traits, Gene Expression and Phytochemical Profile of Mentha piperita in Response to Elicitor
The objective of this research is to investigate the expression of essential genes in the menthol pathway of Mentha piperita, including Pulegone reductase (Pr), Menthofuran synthase (Mfs), and limonene synthase (Ls) using qPCR, physiological analysis and essential oil composition in response to methyl jasmonate (MeJA) (0.5 mM) elicitation. Physiological analysis showed that 0.5 mM MeJA triggers defensive responsiveness in Mentha piperita by increasing superoxide dismutase (SOD) and Peroxidase (POD) enzymes activity. The highest transcript levels of Pr and Mfs genes were observed during 8 and 12 h after treatment respective...

Implications of high homocysteine levels in migraine pain: An experimental study of the excitability of peripheral meningeal afferents in rats with hyperhomocysteinemia
CONCLUSIONS: Our results demonstrated higher excitability of the trigeminal system of rats with hyperhomocysteinemia. Together with our previous finding about the lower threshold of generation of cortical spreading depression in rats with hyperhomocysteinemia, the present data provide evidence of homocysteine as a factor that increases the sensitivity of the peripheral migraine mechanisms, and the control of homocysteine level may be an important strategy for reducing the risk and/or severity of migraine headache attacks.PMID:38650105 | DOI:10.1111/head.14710 (Source: Headache)

Adverse events in biologics for severe asthma
CONCLUSION: Biologics for severe asthma are recent drugs with a favorable safety profile, but with little real-life experience, justifying increased vigilance by prescribing physicians.PMID:38653607 | DOI:10.1016/j.rmr.2024.04.001 (Source: Revue des Maladies Respiratoires)

Proteomics in Patients with Fibromyalgia Syndrome: A Systematic Review of Observational Studies
AbstractPurpose of ReviewFibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) is a disease of unknown pathophysiology, with the diagnosis being based on a set of clinical criteria. Proteomic analysis can provide significant biological information for the pathophysiology of the disease but may also reveal biomarkers for diagnosis or therapeutic targets. The present systematic review aims to synthesize the evidence regarding the proteome of adult patients with FMS using data from observational studies.Recent FindingsAn extensive literature search was conducted in MEDLINE/PubMed, CENTRAL, and clinicaltrials.gov from inception until November 2022. The...

Unsatisfactory response to acute medications does not affect the medication overuse headache development in pediatric chronic migraine
ConclusionsDespite the high prevalence of unresponsiveness to acute therapies in pediatric CM, it does not act as a protective factor for MOH. Moreover, responsiveness to acute drugs is improved by pharmacological preventive treatment and it is not affected by concomitant psychiatric comorbidities. (Source: The Journal of Headache and Pain)

Trends and prescribing patterns of antimigraine medicines in nine major cities in China from 2018 to 2022: a retrospective prescription analysis
ConclusionsMigraine treatment gradually converges toward evidence-based and guideline-recommended treatment. Attention should be given to opioid prescribing, weak evidence-based antidepressant use, and medication overuse in migraine treatment. (Source: The Journal of Headache and Pain)

Headache management in traumatic brain injury
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is estimated to rank as the third most important disease burden worldwide. About 60% of the survivors develop chronic headaches and visual symptoms, and the long-term management of headaches in these patients is controversial. Importantly, the care pathway of most patients is fragmented, complicating conclusive headache management. Here we review the epidemiology and aetiology of post traumatic headaches (PTH), discuss the diagnostic work up and summarise the acute and long –term management. A rare variation of the infraorbital nerve, entrapping the infraorbital artery
AbstractAnatomical variations are a common feature of the human anatomy. Variation can explain some pathological conditions and is important to keep them in mind during surgical procedures. The relations between nerves and their adjacent arteries have been proposed to play a role in the generation of peripheral trigger migraines. Close opposition between nerves and arteries can lead to vascular compression of the nerve that triggers episodes of pain. We did a routine dissection of the infratemporal fossa and orbital floor by opening the maxillary sinus. Here we report a case where the infraorbital nerves form a nervous loo...

Imaging manifestations of papillary glioneuronal tumors
AbstractTo analyse the imaging findings of papillary glioneuronal tumors (PGNTs), in order to improve the accuracy of preoperative diagnosis of this tumor. The clinical and imaging manifestations of 36 cases of PGNT confirmed by pathology were analyzed retrospectively. A total of 17 males and 19 females, averaging 22.47 ( ± 11.23) years. Initial symptoms included epilepsy in ten, headache in seven, and others in 19 cases. 97.2% (35/36) of the lesions were located in the supratentorial area, and 80.5% (29/36) in the intraventricular or deep white matter adjacent to the lateral ventricles. Twenty-four of the lesions (66.7...
