Eight-Week Creatine-Glucose Supplementation Alleviates Clinical Features of Long COVID
In this report, we investigate the effects of 8-wk creatine intake with and without glucose on patient-reported outcomes, exercise tolerance, and tissue creatine levels in patients with long COVID. Fifteen male and female long COVID adult patients (age 39.7±16.0 y; 9 women) with moderate fatigue and at least one of additional long COVID-related symptoms volunteered to participate in this randomized controlled parallel-group interventional trial. All patients were allocated in a double-blind parallel-group design (1 : 1 : 1) to receive creatine (8 g of creatine monohydrate per day), a mixture of creatine and glucose (8 g o...

Autoimmune encephalitis mediated by postvaccination and infection of SARS-CoV-2 in a patient with a narcolepsy type 1
CONCLUSION: The patient fulfilled the diagnostic criteria for autoimmune encephalitis with subacute onset. COVID-19 infection and vaccination could constitute a risk in a patient with narcolepsy as in this case and, could help to provide better understanding of the implication of immune-mediated processes in the pathophysiology of the diseases.PMID:38682764 | DOI:10.33588/rn.7809.2023306 (Source: Revista de Neurologia)

Investigating the causal association between systemic lupus erythematosus and migraine using Mendelian randomization analysis
CONCLUSION: Our MR analysis demonstrated the complex relationship between SLE and migraine, suggesting a potential effect of SLE on the risk of MWA but not MWoA. These findings can aid in the development of improved subtype-specific management of migraine in patients with SLE.PMID:38679912 | DOI:10.1111/head.14723 (Source: Headache)

Developing a pathway to clinical trials for < em > CACNA1A < /em > -related epilepsies: A patient organization perspective
Ther Adv Rare Dis. 2024 Apr 25;5:26330040241245725. doi: 10.1177/26330040241245725. eCollection 2024 Jan-Dec.ABSTRACTCACNA1A-related disorders are rare neurodevelopmental disorders linked to variants in the CACNA1A gene. This gene encodes the α1 subunit of the P/Q-type calcium channel Cav2.1, which is globally expressed in the brain and crucial for fast synaptic neurotransmission. The broad spectrum of CACNA1A-related neurological disorders includes developmental and epileptic encephalopathies, familial hemiplegic migraine type 1, episodic ataxia type 2, spinocerebellar ataxia type 6, together with unclassified presentati...

Neural Interconnections of Extracranial Nerves in Headache Surgery: Anatomical Landmarks and Clinical Implications - A Review of Literature
Plast Reconstr Surg. 2024 Apr 29. doi: 10.1097/PRS.0000000000011504. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHeadache disorders (HD) remain a nationwide challenge for the US healthcare system affecting nearly 60% of the US population. Surgical deactivation of the peripheral trigger site, also referred to as headache surgery, represents an effective treatment for patients with refractory HD pain or non-response to pharmacological regimes. Research stemming from other surgical specialties has underlined the clinical relevance of neural interconnections in refining diagnostic algorithms, adapting surgical techniques, and improving over...
