This article compares the determination of API adulteration in dietary supplement from the 10-year time-period of 2007-2016 to the most recent 5-year period of 2017-2021. From 2007 through 2021, 1,068 unique products have been found to be adulterated with APIs. Sexual enhancement and weight loss dietary supplements are the most common products adulterated with APIs. Phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors are commonly included in sexual enhancement dietary supplements and a single product can include up to five APIs. Quantitation of sibutramine in human hair using gas chromatography –isotope dilution tandem mass spectrometry

Adulteration of the Herbal Weight Loss Products by the Illegal Addition of Synthetic Antiobesity Medications: A Pilot Study
CONCLUSION: Since apothecaries have advised consumers to take at least two capsules a day, it seems that the blood concentration of sibutramine will likely rise beyond the therapeutic concentration and become toxic.
