The Level of Agreement between Self-Assessments and Examiner Assessments of Melanocytic Nevus Counts: Findings from an Evaluation of 4548 Double Assessments
Curr Oncol. 2024 Apr 13;31(4):2221-2232. doi: 10.3390/curroncol31040164.ABSTRACTCutaneous melanoma (CM) is a candidate for screening programs because its prognosis is excellent when diagnosed at an early disease stage. Targeted screening of those at high risk for developing CM, a cost-effective alternative to population-wide screening, requires valid procedures to identify the high-risk group. Self-assessment of the number of nevi has been suggested as a component of such procedures, but its validity has not yet been established. We analyzed the level of agreement between self-assessments and examiner assessments of the nu...

[Retracted] Fangchinoline suppresses growth and metastasis of melanoma cells by inhibiting the phosphorylation of FAK
Oncol Rep. 2024 Jun;51(6):81. doi: 10.3892/or.2024.8740. Epub 2024 Apr 26.ABSTRACTFollowing the publication of this paper, it was drawn to the Editor's attention by a concerned reader that certain of the Transwell migration and invasion assay data shown in Fig. 3C and D on p. 67 were strikingly similar to data appearing in different form in another pair of articles written by different authors at different research institutes, one of which (subsequently retracted) had already been published elsewhere prior to the submission of this paper to Oncology Reports, with the other having been submitted for publication at around th...

Targeting Dectin-1 and or VISTA enhances anti-tumor immunity in melanoma but not colorectal cancer model
ConclusionOur study proposes Dectin-1 as a potential adjunctive target with ICBs, orchestrating a comprehensive engagement of innate and adaptive immune responses in melanoma. This innovative approach holds promise for overcoming acquired resistance to ICBs in cancer treatment, offering avenues for further exploration and development. (Source: Cellular Oncology)

Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1688: Association of miR-146a-5p and miR-21-5p with Prognostic Features in Melanomas
Manuela Ferracin Emy Dika Background: Cutaneous melanoma (CM) is one of the most lethal tumors among skin cancers and its incidence is rising worldwide. Recent data support the role of microRNAs (miRNAs) in melanoma carcinogenesis and their potential use as disease biomarkers. Methods: We quantified the expression of miR-146a-5p and miR-21-5p in 170 formalin-fixed paraffin embedded (FFPE) samples of CM, namely 116 superficial spreading melanoma (SSM), 26 nodular melanoma (NM), and 28 lentigo maligna melanoma (LMM). We correlated miRNA expression with specific histopathologic features including Breslow thickness (BT...

Quantitative ultrasound radiomics analysis to evaluate lymph nodes in patients with cancer: a systematic review
Ultraschall Med. 2024 Apr 25. doi: 10.1055/a-2275-8342. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThis systematic review aims to evaluate the role of ultrasound (US) radiomics in assessing lymphadenopathy in patients with cancer and the ability of radiomics to predict metastatic lymph node involvement. A systematic literature search was performed in the PubMed (MEDLINE), Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), and EMBASE (Ovid) databases up to June 13, 2023. 42 articles were included in which the lymph node mass was assessed with a US exam, and the analysis was performed using radiomics methods. From the survey of th...

Metastatic Melanoma of the Common Bile Duct Presented with Dyspepsia
We describe a very rare case of MM metastasis to the common bile duct (CBD), presented with only dyspeptic symptoms. The patient had mildly elevated alkaline phosphatase and gamma-glutamyl transferase levels. Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography demonstrated a dilated common bile duct with a distal stricture. The MM diagnosis was established with the ampulla of Vater biopsy specimens obtained by endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), and the patient's symptoms were resolved after biliary stenting. Both primary CBD cancer and other cancer types like MM that metastasize to CBD can cause obstruction and...

Tumours of the foot: A 10 years retrospective analysis
CONCLUSION: Foot tumours are relatively rare, mostly originating from soft tissue and exhibiting a benign nature. Nonetheless, a noteworthy proportion-approximately a quarter of these tumours-demonstrate malignancy. The surgical interventions undertaken in managing these tumours and associated functional outcomes generally yield acceptable results.PMID:38662594 | DOI:10.1177/10225536241248706 (Source: Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery)
