Brain Tumors in Adolescents and Young Adults: A Review
Semin Neurol DOI: 10.1055/s-0043-1776775Brain tumors account for the majority of cancer-related deaths in adolescents and young adults (AYAs), defined as individuals aged 15 to 39. AYAs constitute a distinct population in which both pediatric- and adult-type central nervous system (CNS) tumors can be observed. Clinical manifestations vary depending on tumor location and often include headaches, seizures, focal neurological deficits, and signs of increased intracranial pressure. With the publication of the updated World Health Organization CNS tumor classification in 2021, diagnoses have been redefined to emphasize key mole...

Recent Advances in Pediatric Medulloblastoma
AbstractPurpose of ReviewReview recent advances in the understanding of pediatric medulloblastoma including etiology, biology, radiology, and management of pediatric medulloblastoma.Recent FindingsThe classic four subgroups have been reclassified and further subdivided based on new molecular findings. Research is revealing the cell origins of the different subtypes of medulloblastoma. There has been continued personalization of management based on molecular parameters.SummaryWhile many advances have been made in the knowledge base of this most common malignant pediatric brain tumor, there has not yet been translation into ...

Dosimetric impact of adding non-coplanar arcs for scalp-avoidance whole-brain irradiation with volumetric-modulated arc radiotherapy on scalp dose reduction in pediatric patients with medulloblastomas
CONCLUSION: NcVMAT could reduce the EQD50%scalp of the top area below the cut-off dose of 19.9 Gy. NcVMAT appears to be a promising treatment technique for SAWB-VMAT.PMID:37917885 | DOI:10.1002/acm2.14189 (Source: Journal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics)

Survival nomogram for medulloblastoma and multi-center external validation cohort
Conclusion: This study developed a nomogram that incorporates clinical and molecular factors to predict OS prognosis in medulloblastoma patients. The nomogram exhibited improved predictive accuracy compared to previous studies and demonstrated good performance in the external validation cohort. By considering multiple factors, clinicians can utilize this nomogram as a valuable tool for individualized prognosis prediction and treatment decision-making in medulloblastoma patients. Pediatric neurosurgical-oncology scope and management paradigms in Sub-Saharan Africa: a collaboration among 7 referral hospitals on the subcontinent
ConclusionThe histopathologic variety of pediatric brain and spinal tumors managed across 7 SSA referral hospitals was similar to published accounts from other parts of the world. About two-thirds of patients received a tumor-directed surgery with significant inter-institutional variability. Less than a third of patients received adjuvant therapy when indicated. Multi-dimensional capacity building efforts in neuro-oncology are necessary to approach parity in the management of children with brain and spinal tumors in SSA. (Source: Frontiers in Oncology)
