Temporal dynamics of lignin degradation in Quercus acutissima sawdust during Ganoderma lucidum cultivation
Int J Biol Macromol. 2024 Apr 19:131686. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2024.131686. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDespite a fair amount of lignin conversion during mycelial growth, previous structural analyses have not yet revealed how lignin changes continuously and what the relationship is between lignin and ligninolytic enzymes. To clarify these aspects, Quercus acutissima sawdust attaching Ganoderma lucidum mycelium collected from different growth stage was subjected to analysis of lignin structure and ligninolytic enzyme activity. Two key periods of lignin degradation are found during the cultivation of G. lucidum: hypha ra...

Sensitivity and stability improvement on slippery surface-aggregated substrate for trace heavy metals detection using NELIBS
Talanta. 2024 Apr 14;275:126001. doi: 10.1016/j.talanta.2024.126001. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe sensitive and stable detection of trace heavy metals in liquid is crucial given its profound impact on various aspects of human life. Currently, nanoparticle-enhanced laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (NELIBS) with dried droplet method (DDM) is widely applied for heavy metals detection. Nevertheless, the coffee ring effect (CRE) in DDM affects the stability, accuracy, and sensitivity of NELIBS. Here, we developed a slippery surface-aggregated substrate (SS substrate) to suppress the CRE and enrich analytes, and form a ...

Talanta. 2024 Apr 12;275:126064. doi: 10.1016/j.talanta.2024.126064. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTChinese Baijiu (Liquor) is a popular alcoholic beverage, and the ethanol content in Baijiu is closely related to its quality; therefore, it is of great significance to explore a facile, sensitive, and rapid method to detect ethanol content in Baijiu. Hydrophobic carbon quantum dots (H-CQDs) with bright red fluorescence (24.14 %) were fabricated by hydrothermal method using o-phenylenediamine, p-aminobenzoic acid, manganese chloride, and hydrochloric acid as reaction precursors. After the introduction of ultrapure water into t...

Manganese(I)-catalyzed nucleophilic addition of C(sp < sup > 3 < /sup > )-H bonds to aldehydes
Chem Commun (Camb). 2024 Apr 19. doi: 10.1039/d4cc01338g. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe C-H bond activation catalyzed by a manganese(I) complex has achieved significant development but is limited to C(sp2)-H bonds. In this work, an efficient manganese(I)-catalyzed direct nucleophilic addition reaction of C(sp3)-H bonds to aromatic aldehydes has been developed. This is the first example of manganese(I)-catalyzed C(sp3)-H bond transformation. A manganacycle complex was isolated and proved to be the key active intermediate in the catalytic cycle.PMID:38639013 | DOI:10.1039/d4cc01338g (Source: Chemical Communications)

Chem Commun (Camb). 2024 Apr 19. doi: 10.1039/d4cc01275e. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNOx is an air pollutant that affects human health. A series of perovskite catalysts with different ratios of lanthanum, iron, and manganese and a three-dimensional ordered microporous structure was prepared, and the strongest catalytic performance was obtained with the LaFe0.1Mn0.9O3 catalyst. LaFe0.1Mn0.9O3 possesses the greatest number of oxygen vacancies and reached 77% NO oxidation conversion at 250 °C, with the highest NO oxidation conversion of 99% at 318 °C. This work provides a promising non-precious metal catalyst for NO oxid...

Enzymatic and non-enzymatic removal of organic micropollutants with spent mushroom substrate of Agaricus bisporus
In this study, we assessed the removal of OMPs by spent mushroom substrate (SMS) of the white button mushroom (Agaricus bisporus) and by its aqueous tea extract. Removal of acesulfame K, antipyrine, bentazon, caffeine, carbamazepine, chloridazon, clofibric acid, and N, N-diethyl-meta-toluamide (DEET) by SMS and its tea was between 10 and 90% and 0-26%, respectively, in a 7-day period. Sorption to SMS particles was between 0 and 29%, which can thus not explain the removal difference between SMS and its tea, the latter lacking these particles. Carbamazepine was removed most efficiently by both SMS and its tea. Removal of OMP...

Manganese Oxide / Silica catalysed Decarboxylative Ketonization of Aliphatic Carboxylic Acids in a Continuous Flow Reactor
ChemSusChem. 2024 Apr 18:e202400094. doi: 10.1002/cssc.202400094. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe sustainable synthesis of long carbon chain molecules from carbon dioxide, water and electricity relies on the development of waste-free, highly selective C-C bond forming reactions. An example for such a power-to-chemicals process is the industrial-scale fermentation for the production of hexanoic acid. Herein, we describe how this product is transformed into 6-undecanone via decarboxylative ketonization using a heterogeneous manganese oxide / silica catalyst. The reaction reaches full conversion with near-complete selectivi...
