IJERPH, Vol. 21, Pages 381: Essential and Toxic Elements in Infant Cereal in Brazil: Exposure Risk Assessment
The objective of this study was to assess the cancer and non-cancer risk of exposure to essential and toxic elements in infant cereal in Brazil. In our analyses, we included data from 18 samples of infant cereals made from different raw materials and estimated the incremental lifetime cancer risks and non-cancer hazard quotients (HQs) for their consumption. Rice cereal is particularly concerning because it is immensely popular and usually contains high levels of inorganic arsenic. In addition to arsenic, we assessed aluminum, boron, barium, cadmium, chromium, copper, lead, manganese, nickel, selenium, silver, strontium, an...

Assessment of potential ecological risk of heavy metal contamination of agricultural soils in Kazakhstan
Braz J Biol. 2024 Mar 18;84:e280583. doi: 10.1590/1519-6984.280583. eCollection 2024.ABSTRACTAccumulation of heavy metals in soil can lead to the deterioration of soil quality, reduce soil fertility and crop yields, and thus threaten human and animal health. The study aimed to assess the potential ecological risk of heavy metal contamination of agricultural soils in Kazakhstan. The study was carried out in 2021 on the soils of the Zhdanovskoye owner-operated farm in the Sokolovsko-Sarybai district of the Kostanay region. The quantitative content of heavy metals, such as lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), arsenic (As), and cadmium (C...

Ligand-free MnBr2-Catalyzed Chemo- and Stereoselective Hydroboration of Terminal Alkynes
Chem Asian J. 2024 Mar 21:e202400158. doi: 10.1002/asia.202400158. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDeveloping simple and benign protocols for synthesizing alkenylboronates is crucial as they are synthetically valuable compounds in various organic transformations. In this work, we report a straightforward ligand-free protocol for synthesizing alkenylboronates via atom-economical hydroboration of alkynes with HBpin catalyzed by a manganese salt. The reaction shows a high level of chemo and regioselectivity for the terminal alkynes and exclusively produces E-selective alkenylboronates. The hydroboration scope is vast, with the ...

Oxygen Vacancy ‐Rich Manganese Nanoflowers as Ferroptosis Inducers for Tumor Radiotherapy
Theovs-MnO2 enhances radiotherapy by inducing ferroptosis and modifying the tumor microenvironment. It catalyzes H2O2, releasing O2 and hydroxyl radicals while depleting glutathione. Simultaneously, enriched oxygen vacancies inovs-MnO2 prompt the release of intracellular Fe2+, activating lipid peroxidation and ferroptosis. This dual action, inactivating GPX4 and inducing ferroptosis in tumor cells, boosts the therapeutic efficiency of radiotherapy. AbstractThe combination of ferroptosis and innovative tumor therapy methods offers another promising answer to the problem of tumors. In order to generate effective ferroptosis ...
