Per diem disability evals - rate?
Recently contacted by a company that does per diem/moonlighting disability psych evals (not neuropsych). Rate per eval is $85-95, which covers 45 minute appt and templated report. Minimal pay for no shows. Role is set up for flexibility (for example, can work 1-2 days/month or more and can set how many evals each day). It is W4 and includes limited admin support, office space, software, malpractice coverage; no other benefits. The rate seems low, but want other opinions about the rate and setup. Malpractice judgements? Who pays?
So I was curious about this, I’m looking into a few jobs and they generally cover malpractice in the amounts of 1M/3M something like that. I’m wondering what happens if you have a case and the judgment is like 65M? Are you on the hook for 62 million dollars? Record Verdict in Psychiatric Malpractice Case Record $65 Million Verdict in Psychiatric Malpractice Case Congratulations to our new law partner, Natalie Woodward, on her $65 Million Verdict in a psychiatric malpractice case on August 30. Pelvic exams and cancer
So on the big Physcian community Facebook group there was a thread topic saying that ED/PCPs do not do as many pelvics as one OBGYN would like. They all list cancer as why pelvics should be done. There were a few posts saying it was malpractice for missing cancer. But when I do my pelvics and the cervix looks nonuniform I just tell them to go to OBGYN. Even if it is a necrotic mass Gyn says they should still follow up in the office. I see for foriegn body removal or lac repair (calling... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Court Case: TEE, Surgeons and Defamation
An interesting Fourth Circuit federal appellate opinion from last week that revolves around a defamation case filed by a former cardiothoracic surgery fellow against her attending. I was going to write a summary, but it is probably just as quick to read the facts from the opinion. It may be of interest here because it revolves around a TEE done by a cardiac anesthesiologist, but he does not appear to be directly involved in the defamation case or the underlying malpractice suit... Clinic Telepsych Company Recommendations 2023
Hey all, PGY-4 here looking at telepsych (clinic) jobs and was wondering if anyone has recommendations? Would love to hear about people's experiences, either from interviews or working at the various companies. There's a ton of options out there and it's hard to figure out where to start and what to look for in a company. I have a few questions that could help jump start the thread: 1) What is considered fair compensation? 2) For full time, are benefits / malpractice generally included? 3)... For folks considering VA vs. Academic medical center as future career track primarily for clinical/supervision work, what are pros and cons?
From what I heard, VA seems to value psychologists (e.g., protection from malpractice, etc.) across the board. AMC can be a bit of context-specific. I'd love to hear your observations and information on prestige, pay (throughout career 10-20 year track, including initial pay), work-life balance, future career track opportunities, etc. between VA and AMC. A bit more context - I'm trying to decide where to go for internship between VA and AMC. Most of my sites I interviewed are in big... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Question re: anesthesia reimbursement for plastics
Hello, I sometimes cover an office based oculo-plastic surgeon (blephs etc) for an anesthesia practice. This anesthesia practice pays me market rate but I have my own malpractice etc so I am thinking of doing this work independently and directly with the plastic surgeons - either their office or ASC. I am doing the labor and taking all the liability anyways, as opposed to being in a group setting. Offsite and office based anesthesia carries its own set of risks and nuances, such as limited... Tail Insurance
After 6.5 years at my current gig, I am making a switch to another group. I currently have a claims-made policy with The Doctors Company and need to purchase tail. I have a quote ($21k) from TDC but I've been told I can shop around for better prices from other insurance companies. I've only had TDC, so I was hoping members here could chime in with the names of malpractice insurance companies I can contact? Thank you! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Acute Pain Service $/RVU?
Hi, Does anyone know where can I find data on this? My hospital approached me to start an acute pain service, as an independent contractor outside of the anesthesia practice. I will have to carry my own malpractice and do it through my own LLC and it would be productivity type of contract. How do I find out what is an appropriate $/ rvu amount for acute pain service, and some nerve blocks if indicated - both US guided and if needed fluoro guided (im pain fellowship trained). Thank you (Source: Student Doctor Network)
