Do preceptor docs get help paying for their malpractice insurance from med schools?
I have a preceptor who frequently complains that she never wanted to take medical students. I'm just going to assume she's not making these comments because she hates me. I'm too afraid to ask her, but I heard a doc one time say she teaches lectures at our med school and takes students because they pay her mal practice and as an OBGYN, that is a butt load of money she saves. Anyone know if this is the case for preceptors who just take students? Cause if that's the case then I'd be all... Do preceptor docs get help paying for their malpractice insurance from med schools? Treating children without a C & A fellowship?
Is this ok to do? Especially if one doesn't have the financial means to lose an attending salary? Is there risk of malpractice suit later on if one is just adult certified and not child certified? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Best big cities for EM?
Considering moving. Family really wants to try the big city experience (LA, NYC, Chicago, etc) for a bit. Any thoughts on which cities are better options for EM in terms of job availability, salary, malpractice environment, etc? Ideal job would be academic with some independent shifts in a busy community hospital but I'm pretty flexible. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Hourly rate as independent contractor for cash only psychology practice
I am looking into a part time opportunity to work 2 to 3 days in a 12 psychotherapist practice. Maybe 200 for a followup and 400ish for a new patient. Plan is to do 20 to 30 minute followup and 1 hour new patient (most would have diagnosis from the therapist). The want to offer an hourly rate but maybe willing to consider a salary. I will have to do my own malpractice insurance. What would be a good hourly rate to start with? My take is that I can negotiate a higher rate than a psychiatry... If there was a glimmer of hope for military medicine, THIS killed it
New measure would allow troops to sue for military malpractice mistakes Rep. Jackie Speier wants to overturn the Feres Doctrine, which bars such lawsuits against the Defense Department. www.militarytimes.com Soon it will be open season on military doctors as we will be held liable for adverse outcomes for practically anything and everything despite having little to NO control of our practice. Malpractice Case: Missed x-ray finding
Case 8: Cough – medmalreviewer Patient seen for cough. Radiology read mentions incidental finding. No follow-up until several years later, patient's incidental finding now developed into inoperable cancer. Patient sues. Doc has died in the meantime, so they're really just suing his estate. Lawsuits, malpractice, and everything else
Just curious...I know lawsuits are common, but really how common are they? Just curious to see if anyone with a very high number has ever had any issues with getting malpractice insurance. So.... How often have you been sued, were you dismissed or settled? What amount of settlement? Did it affect your life in anyway once it was over? Diminishing future job prospects if high rate of lawsuits? The Future of Medical Education
