Coding for couple's therapy?
Hey everyone, got a question about coding for insurance and wasn't sure who to ask (is this a question to pose to my malpractice carrier?). Had a request to do couple's therapy. I had a fair amount of elective training in couples therapy during residency and have done some additional training at the Gottman institute. However, I'm unsure about how, if at all, to bill this to insurance. During residency, I would bill 90847 instead of E/M codes but my supervisor was a psychologist so I... Suicide Malpractice Case [Naturopathic Provider and Allopathic Psychiatrist]
Sad case here: Suicide [Naturopathic "Doctor"] Young woman with suicidal thoughts. Takes her husband's gun, holds it to her head. Tells family, they try to help her but she is resistant to hospitalization. Sees a naturopathic doctor, apparently there was no screening for suicidality. Dies by suicide several weeks later. Husband sues multiple providers (psychiatrist who had seen her months before, social worker, naturopathic doctor). Everyone eventually ends up settling. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Phoenix Az Job Wanted...
(I posted this on the main board as well, but thought I'd post it here too if allowed) Hey all, I thought I'd throw this out there and see if any of you private practice folks have any insight for me: Maybe I should start with what I'm looking for--a democratic group with a 1-2 yr. partnership track with shared call, paid malpractice, 5-8 wks vacation, retirement, insurance, etc...(this is roughly what I'm finding everywhere else in the US) However, having spoken to... Supplemental Liability Insurance
Do any of you carry a personal malpractice policy to supplement your coverage under the Federal Tort Claims Act (FTCA)? If so, which company do you use? What type of policy is it (claims made, occurance, etc)? What is your premium? When I previously worked in a Federally Qualified Community Health Center, we were covered under FTCA, but the clinic also provided us with a supplemental policy for any claims that fell outside of that coverage. I'm currently in the process of taking a job... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Foot compartment syndrome [Malpractice Case]
Has anyone here after 1. diagnosed compartment syndrome of the foot or 2. checked a compartment pressure on the foot? Interesting case of a guy who got his foot run over, seen at an occupational health clinic, sent home. 3 days later sent to ED, gets fasciotomies of the foot. Permanently disabled. A few orthos are saying that doing the fasciotomies of the foot is often worse than the compartment syndrome, standard may be switching to just splint, pain meds, then release... Per diem work on a per diem malpractice policy
I was wondering what you guys thought a competitive hourly rate for per diem work should be for a busy metropolitan are hospital. This is a place where I was previously employed hence I think it would be easy as I know all the ropes. I would only be covering 1-2 shift per month as I have another steady gig. This would pay me on a 1099 and would require my own malpractice policy. Nationwide anesthesia provides this at about $180 a day. I'm also nervous about getting malpractice coverage... Legal Resource to help with malpractice defense? (Military)
I have been recently notified that I have been identified from a military malpractice claim from an active duty member. I don't have malpractice insurance myself because the military covers claims made against me. Previously, active duty military cant make malpractice claims against AD provider, but now they can with a new legislation. Because of this, I believe this means that I need to find my own lawyer to help represent me. In particular, to help me get my statement straight; this... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

New patients evals/transfers with adderall prescription.
For those getting patients for evaluation that have chronic prescriptions for benzodiazepines, stimulants etc. How do you handle it? I've started working at a location where most referrals are prescribes Klonopin and Adderall (which I believe is basically malpractice). Also, most of these patients are not gainfully employed or going to school, what would the purpose of the stimulant be? Added bonus is that they have multiple different providers in prescription monitoring review. Maybe... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Medefense tail coverage
Hey everyone, I recently left a group with an occurrence based malpractice policy, however I was just contacted by my former insurer about Medefense tail coverage. The group I left was my first job, so this is uncharted territory for me. Just googling what medefense coverage was for left me with a list of pretty esoteric things, and I’m not sure what amount of coverage would suffice, or if this coverage is even necessary in the first place. I’d really appreciate any insight from any of... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

malpractice, tail, and working in multiple states
Hi, all--Question about malpractice, tail coverage, and working in multiple states (that you are licensed in). Here's my situation. Looking at a contract, have not signed. Says they don't provide tail. I protest, director comes up with a % of tail they will cover, will cover 100% if I stay for 2 years. Ok, don't love it, but my question is not about whether I should love this. Job entails work in state A, which is my primary state and where I am licensed. Job also entails some tele work in... Split fee?
I have worked locums, independent contractor positions, but always at X $ per hour. I am interviewing for a really busy clinic that uses Ketamine, RTMS, great reputation, but they want me to do a 70/30 split where I pay my own malpractice, go my own prior authorizations............. I am so much more comfortable knowing I will make X dollars per week. Have those of you who have done a split fee at a clinic done ok financially? (Source: Student Doctor Network)
