Psychiatric Ethics Stumper
So recently I happened to be perusing the Code of Conduct, or Ethical Guidelines or whatever it is called that is put out by the APA. One of the rules is that it is unethical to practice outside your area of competence. I take "area of competence" to mean "psychiatry." But anyone who has finished intern year can get a state medical license and be a GP. Will they be a good one? Who knows. Still isn't the "area of competence" for all MDs who have done an intern year "everything?" How do GPs get malpractice insurance by the way? (Source: Student Doctor Network Forums)

Offered an opportunity by a law group to review a malpractice case...
What does this mean? I was called at work and offered the opportunity to review a case that was potentially a malpractice suit against an EM doctor in San Antonio, TX... I wasn't sure what this meant and if it meant that I was going to be on the side of the physician or the plaintiff... so I told them to give me time to think about it. Have any of you guys done this? Clinical Policies/Policy Statements
So I hear a lot that you should be well versed with the official policies of the major organizations relevant to your practice. Not necessarily that you have to abide by them but that you need to be familiar with them and know very clearly when you are deviating and why because if you end up in court, it's the policies that will be cited as evidence of your malpractice. So then I have a few questions. Is there anywhere to get a compilation of the current ACEP policies or do you have to pull them off the website one-by-one?
