Experiences in Improving the Quality of Community-Based Fever Management from Three Malaria-Endemic African Countries
Am J Trop Med Hyg. 2024 Jan 9:tpmd230488. doi: 10.4269/ajtmh.23-0488. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe WHO affirms that trained, supervised, and supported community health workers (CHWs) can deliver high-quality health services effectively and has called for documentation of enabling factors, needs, and implementation strategies of successful CHW programs. In response, the U.S. President's Malaria Initiative Impact Malaria Project conducted a study to document implementation approaches, best practices, and lessons learned for quality improvement (QI) of community-based fever management in Madagascar, Malawi, and Mali. The...

GSE252056 SARS-CoV-2 infection evokes transcriptional changes in Calu-3 cells and cultured primary mouse trigeminal ganglia cells
Contributors : Zhongyan Gong ; Sonali S Mali ; Diana M BautistaSeries Type : Expression profiling by high throughput sequencingOrganism : Homo sapiens ; Mus musculusSARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for COVID-19, infects both human airway epithelial cells and trigeminal ganglia. We assessed the consequences of SARS-CoV-2 infection on gene expression in Calu-3 cells and in primary Mus musculus trigeminal ganglia cells (mmTG). Here, we provide datasets that include raw reads and mapped reads for the following: 1) mock infected mmTG 48 hrs post infection; 2) SARS-CoV-2 infected mmTG 48 hrs post infection; 3) mock infected Ca...

Emotion, Fact, and Anthropogenic Disturbances: Undergraduate Attitudes Toward Wildfire and Urbanization after a Brief Intervention
This study hints that brief interventions can impact student disturbance beliefs, but more research is needed to guide curriculum development. Despite some research suggesting the value of emotion to inspire climate action, our results suggest that more work needs to be done regarding the value of emotion to increase environmental action toward other anthropogenic disturbances.PMID:38166021 | DOI:10.1187/cbe.22-08-0152 (Source: CBE Life Sciences Education)

Genes, Vol. 15, Pages 46: MAPT Locus in Parkinson & rsquo;s Disease Patients of Ashkenazi Origin: A Stratified Analysis
Conclusions: Our results demonstrate that H2 is associated with PD and its protective effect is not influenced by the GBA1/LRRK2 risk allele carrier status. This effect may be genetically complex, resulting from different levels of variations such as missense mutations in relevant genes, structural variations, epigenetic modifications, and RNA expression changes, which may operate independently or in synergy. Clinical Outreach Training and Supportive Supervision Quality-of-Care Analysis: Impact of Readiness Factors on Health Worker Competencies in Malaria Case Management in Cameroon, Mali, and Niger
Am J Trop Med Hyg. 2023 Dec 26:tpmd230479. doi: 10.4269/ajtmh.23-0479. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTImproving the quality of malaria clinical case management in health facilities is key to improving health outcomes in patients. The U.S. President's Malaria Initiative Impact Malaria Project has supported implementation of the outreach training and supportive supervision (OTSS) approach in 11 African countries to improve the quality of malaria care in health facilities through the collection and analysis of observation-based data on health facility readiness and health provider competency in malaria case management. We cond...

Use of Supervision Data to Improve Quality of Care for Malaria in Pregnancy: Experience in Six African Countries
Am J Trop Med Hyg. 2023 Dec 26:tpmd230206. doi: 10.4269/ajtmh.23-0206. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMalaria in pregnancy (MiP) intervention coverage, especially intermittent preventive treatment in pregnancy (IPTp), lags behind other global malaria indicators. In 2020, across Africa, only 32% of eligible pregnant women received at least three IPTp doses, despite high antenatal care attendance. We conducted a secondary analysis of data collected during outreach, training, and supportive supervision visits from 2019 to 2020 to assess quality of care and explore factors contributing to providers' competence in providing IPTp...
