Molecules, Vol. 28, Pages 4064: UPLC-QE-Orbitrap-Based Cell Metabolomics and Network Pharmacology to Reveal the Mechanism of N-Benzylhexadecanamide Isolated from Maca (Lepidium meyenii Walp.) against Testicular Dysfunction
This study examined the effects of H2O2 on cell viability and testosterone levels in mouse Leydig cells (TM3) under oxidative stress. In addition, cell metabolomics analysis based on UPLC-Q-Exactive-MS/MS showed that NBH was mainly involved in arginine biosynthesis, aminoacyl-tRNA biosynthesis, phenylalanine, tyrosine and tryptophan biosynthesis, the TCA cycle and other metabolic pathways by affecting 23 differential metabolites, including arginine and phenylalanine. Furthermore, we also performed network pharmacological analysis to observe the key protein targets in NBH treatment. The results showed that its role was to u...

A novel aminotransferase gene and its regulator acquired in Saccharomyces by a horizontal gene transfer event
Horizontal gene transfer (HGT) is an evolutionary mechanism of adaptive importance, which has been deeply studied in wine S. cerevisiae strains, where those acquired genes conferred improved traits related to bot... (Source: BMC Biology)

Molecules, Vol. 28, Pages 3943: The Efficient Synthesis and Anti-Fatigue Activity Evaluation of Macamides: The Unique Bioactive Compounds in Maca
Xiaobao Jin Hui Yin Macamides are a class of amide alkaloids that are only found in maca and are widely considered to be its bioactive marker compounds. More than thirty macamide monomers have been identified in recent years; however, it is difficult to obtain a single macamide monomer from the maca plant because of their similar structures and characteristics. We used the carbodiimide condensation method (CCM) to efficiently synthesize five typical macamides, including N-benzyl-hexadecanamide (NBH), N-benzyl-9Z,12Z,15Z-octadecenamide, N-(3-methoxybenzyl)-9Z,12Z-octadecenamide, N-benzyl-9Z,12Z-octadecenamide, and N-(...

Molecules, Vol. 28, Pages 3932: Determining the Photoelectrical Behavior and Photocatalytic Activity of an h-YMnO3 New Type of Obelisk-Like Perovskite in the Degradation of Malachite Green Dye
pez de Alba Carlos Alberto Reynoso-García César Alberto YMnO3 is a P-type semiconductor with a perovskite-type structure (ABO3). It presents two crystalline systems: rhombohedral and hexagonal, the latter being the most stable and studied. In the hexagonal system, Mn3+ ions are coordinated by five oxygen ions forming a trigonal bipyramid, and the Y3+ ions are coordinated by five oxygen ions. This arrangement favors its ferroelectric and ferromagnetic properties, which have been widely studied since 1963. However, applications based on their optical properties have yet to be explored. This work evaluates the photoe...

Macathioureas A-D, four new thiourea analogues from the roots of Lepidium meyenii
Fitoterapia. 2023 May 3:105521. doi: 10.1016/j.fitote.2023.105521. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMacathioureas A-D (1-4), four new thiourea derivatives with a carbamothioylpyrrolidine-2-carboxamide framework, were isolated from the roots of Lepidium meyenii (Maca) collected from Qujing, Yunnan Province of China. Their structures were identified based on extensive spectroscopic data, including 1D NMR, 2D NMR, and HRESIMS techniques. Their absolute configurations were assigned as 7S by the comparison of the experimental and predicted electronic circular dichroism (ECD) spectra. All the thiourea analogues were tested for thei...

Substrate recruitment mechanism by gram-negative type III, IV, and VI bacterial injectisomes
Trends Microbiol. 2023 Apr 19:S0966-842X(23)00084-7. doi: 10.1016/j.tim.2023.03.005. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBacteria use a wide arsenal of macromolecular substrates (DNA and proteins) to interact with or infect prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. To do so, they utilize substrate-injecting secretion systems or injectisomes. However, prior to secretion, substrates must be recruited to specialized recruitment platforms and then handed over to the secretion apparatus for secretion. In this review, we provide an update on recent advances in substrate recruitment and delivery by gram-negative bacterial recruitment platforms...

The impact of Parkinson's disease severity on performance of activities of daily living: an observational study
CONCLUSIONS: The severity of PD is closely related to the impairment of functional skills measured with the AMPS scale in non-demented PD patients. A strong correlation was found with the motor skills. A strong correlation was found between the AMPS process skills scale and Schwab and England ADL scale. A weak correlation was found between the AMPS motor scale and disease duration. The AMPS scale might be a useful tool to monitoring the PD progression through the observation of ADL performance.PMID:37046393 | DOI:10.33588/rn.7608.2022263 (Source: Revista de Neurologia)
