Detailed preoperative lymphatic mapping by lymphoscintigraphy for sentinel node identification: a pictorial essay
AbstractPre-operative lymphatic mapping for sentinel node identification is essential for accurate staging in patients with several solid cancers and for important prognostic implications.99mTc-labelled colloid lymphoscintigraphy and intraoperative sentinel lymph node detection using a gamma probe represent a well-established nuclear medicine technique and a detailed imaging method thanks to the advent of hybrid multi-modality SPET/CT. Through the description of numerous clinical cases, different in terms of cancer type and fields of application, we aimed to bring out the strengths and advantages of pre-operative lymphosci...

Effects of an early intervention with Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment on arm lymphedema and quality of life after breast cancer —an explorative clinical trial
ConclusionParticipants receiving HBOT experienced improved QOL without consistently significant changes in arm mass, volume or lymphatic drainage. These results call for studies into differential effect in patient sub-groups, and a large-scale, randomized placebo-controlled trial with long-term follow-up to assess the effect of HBOT in patients with soft tissue radiation injuries after breast cancer seems warranted.Trial registrationDanish Health and Medicines Authority, EUDRACT no. 2015 –000,604-25 Ethical committee of the Capitol Region, No. R96-A6604-14-S22. A hybrid radioactive and fluorescence approach is more than the sum of its parts; outcome of a phase II randomized sentinel node trial in prostate cancer patients
CONCLUSIONS: The hybrid tracer ICG-99mTc-nanocolloid improved the positive predictive value for tumor-bearing LNs while minimizing the number of fluorescent nodes compared to the sequential tracer approach. Consequently, the hybrid tracer ICG-99mTc-nanocolloid enables the most reliable and minimal invasive method for LN staging in PCa patients.PMID:37036490 | DOI:10.1007/s00259-023-06191-7 (Source: Molecular Medicine)

Lymphoscintigraphic alterations in lower limbs in women with lipedema in comparison to women with overweight/obesity
Discussion: Our study indicates that lymphatic alterations are present before development to clinically visible secondary lymphedema in both conditions, lipedema and overweight/obesity. In majority of women from both study groups they indicate rather an overload of the lymphatic system than insufficiency. Lymphoscintigraphic alterations are similar in both groups, therefore, lymphoscintigraphy is not a diagnostic tool that might distinguish lipedema from overweight/obesity. Summary: Appropriate Use Criteria for Lymphoscintigraphy in Sentinel Node Mapping and Lymphedema/Lipedema
Expert representatives from 11 professional societies, as part of an autonomous work group, researched and developed appropriate use criteria (AUC) for lymphoscintigraphy in sentinel lymph node mapping and lymphedema. The complete findings and discussions of the work group, including example clinical scenarios, were published on October 8, 2022, and are available at https://www.snmmi.org/ClinicalPractice/content.aspx?ItemNumber=42021. The complete AUC document includes clinical scenarios for scintigraphy in patients with breast, cutaneous, and other cancers, as well as for mapping lymphatic flow in lymphedema. Pediatric co...

Measures of performance for sentinel lymph node biopsy in oro-oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionsThe superiority of SPECT/CT over planar methods has been reported for providing identification of SLNs by aberrant lymphatic drainage. The additional contribution of optical tracers (mainly represented by blue dye) to the radiocolloid-based techniques did not improve significantly the measures of performance. Comparison of two hybrid sentinel node tracers: indocyanine green (ICG)- < sup > 99m < /sup > Tc-nanocolloid vs. ICG- < sup > 99m < /sup > Tc-nanoscan from a nuclear medicine and surgical perspective
CONCLUSIONS: Based on this retrospective analysis, we can conclude that ICG-99mTc-nanoscan has similar capacity for SN identification as ICG-99mTc-nanocolloid and can safely be implemented in SN procedures.PMID:36929210 | DOI:10.1007/s00259-023-06157-9 (Source: Molecular Medicine)

99mTc-Rituximab sentinel lymph node mapping and biopsy, the effective technique avoids axillary dissection and predicts prognosis in 533 cutaneous melanoma
ConclusionThe novel radiotracer99mTc-rituximab could identify SLNs specifically in SLN lymphoscintigraphy and SLNB in CMM patients, and the pathology obtained from SLNB rather than from RLND better indicated the staging and long-term prognosis. (Source: Annals of Nuclear Medicine)

Nonvisualized sentinel node on preoperative lymphoscintigraphy in primary cutaneous melanoma: an 11-year retrospective survey
CONCLUSIONS: The nonvisualization of regional lymph nodes by lymphoscintigraphy is more frequent in older patients with head and neck melanomas. From the clinical point of view, no specific recommendation emerged for patients' management because the nonvisualization of the SLN did not show a significant influence on DFS and OS rates. However, lack of knowledge of lymph node status suggests performing a tighter follow-up eventually by ultrasound evaluation of all potential lymph node drainage basins.PMID:36826418 | DOI:10.1097/MNM.0000000000001671 (Source: Cancer Control)

Pneumatic compression therapy using the EQ Press accelerates lymphatic flow in healthy equine forelimbs as determined by lymphoscintigraphy
The objective of this study was to determine the effect of a novel, equine-specific pneumatic compression device on the lymphatic flow of healthy horse forelimbs as determined by Tc-99m sulfur colloid lymphoscintigraphy.ANIMALS: 6 healthy Thoroughbreds.PROCEDURES: In a randomized crossover design, horses underwent bilateral forelimb lymphoscintigraphy following subcutaneous injection of Tc-99m sulfur colloid at the coronary band as untreated control or with pneumatic compression therapy using the EQ Press. Lateral, static images were obtained of the distal limb (time 0 to 60 minutes) and proximal limb (time 30 to 60 minute...
