Diagnostic and prognostic nomograms for laryngeal carcinoma patients with lung metastasis: a SEER-based study
ConclusionDistant metastasis (bone, brain, or liver) and N stage should be considered for prediction of LM in LC patients. Chemotherapy is the most significant influencing prognostic factor improving the survival of LC patients with LM. Two nomograms may benefit for providing better precautionary measures and treatment decision. (Source: European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology)

A vocal cord palsy caused by the uterine cancer metastatic tumor in the mediastinum revealed in a patient with a  thyroid lesion: a case report and review of the literature
ConclusionA history of the disease should always be kept in mind when assessing a patient ’s complaints. VCP in case of thyroid pathology and previous secondary malignancy may be caused by metastatic tumor anywhere along the RLN pathway. Such a rare case shows the importance of additional methods of examination which may avoid unnecessary thyroid surgeries. (Source: Journal of Medical Case Reports)

Citalopram, an antipsychotic agent, induces G1/G0 phase cell cycle arrest and promotes apoptosis in human laryngeal carcinoma HEP-2 cells
AbstractHuman laryngeal squamous carcinoma (LSCC) is a common malignant tumor in the head and neck. Despite the recently developed therapies for the treatment of LSCC, patients ’ overall survival rate still did not enhance remarkably; this highlights the need to formulate alternative strategies to develop novel treatments. The antitumor effects of antidepressant drugs such as citalopram have been reported on several cancer cells; however, they have yet to be investigated against LSCC. The current study was directed to explore the possible antitumor effects of citalopram on human laryngeal carcinoma cell lines (HEP-2). HE...

Impact of sarcopenia on overall survival and local relapse in head and neck cancer patients undergoing surgical excision
CONCLUSIONS: The findings of this study emphasize the importance of sarcopenia evaluation in determining prognosis and identifying patients who may benefit from specialized and intensive nutritional programs. Sarcopenia harms overall survival and local relapse in head and neck cancer patients.PMID:38567578 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202403_35719 (Source: Pharmacological Reviews)

NRSN2 promotes the malignant behavior of HPV-transfected laryngeal carcinoma cells through AMPK/ULK1 pathway mediated autophagy activation
Cancer Biol Ther. 2024 Dec 31;25(1):2334463. doi: 10.1080/15384047.2024.2334463. Epub 2024 Apr 3.ABSTRACTNeurensin-2 (NRSN2) performs a pro-carcinogenic function in multiple cancers. However, the function of NRSN2 in HPV-infected laryngeal carcinoma (LC) remains unclear. HPV transfection was performed in LC cells. The mRNA and protein levels were monitored using RT-qPCR, immunoblotting, and IF. Cell viability and proliferation were found using the CCK-8 assay and Edu staining. Cell invasion, migration, and apoptosis were probed using the Transwell, wound healing, and flow cytometry, respectively. The autophagosome was obse...
