Outcomes of nifedipine versus labetalol for oral treatment of chronic hypertension in pregnancy
A recent randomized trial showed that treating chronic hypertension (CHTN) in pregnancy reduced risks of adverse outcomes including preeclampsia and preterm birth (PTB). We tested whether maternal and neonatal outcomes differ by use of labetalol vs. nifedipine for antihypertensive therapy in pregnancy. (Source: American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology)

Analytical enantioseparation of N-alkyl drugs by reversed-phase liquid chromatography with carboxymethyl- β-cyclodextrin as mobile phase additive
Chirality. 2022 Nov 8. doi: 10.1002/chir.23516. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCarboxymethyl-β-cyclodextrins (CM-β-CDs) with five kinds of degrees of substitution were synthesized and characterized. Analytical enantioseparation of six basic drugs containing N-alkyl groups, including pheniramine, chlorpheniramine, labetalol, propranolol, venlafaxine, and trans-paroxol, was achieved by reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) using the synthesized CM-β-CD as chiral mobile phase additives. Key influence factors were optimized, including organic modifier, pH value, CM-β-CD with different degrees of su...

False-positive Fentanyl Urine Detection after Initiation of Labetalol Treatment for Hypertension in Pregnancy: A Case Report
We present 3 pregnant or postpregnant persons with SUDs who experienced presumptive positive urine immunoassays for fentanyl while prescribed LH for perinatal HD. Discussion Labetalol hydrochloride treatment for HD in pregnancy can result in presumptive positive urine immunoassays for fentanyl. Unrecognized or misinterpreted, this phenomenon can lead to significant consequences for pregnant and postpartum persons with co-occurring substance use and hypertensive disorders. Clinicians caring for pregnant persons with SUDs must be aware of this phenomenon and its sequelae when ordering and interpreting urine immunoassa...

Effects of Nifedipine and Labetalol Combined with Magnesium Sulfate on Blood Pressure Control, Blood Coagulation Function, and Maternal and Infant Outcome in Patients with Pregnancy-Induced Hypertension
CONCLUSION: Nifedipine, in combination with magnesium sulfate and labetalol, is effective at treating PIH, reducing blood pressure, improving blood coagulation, preventing cardiovascular events and vascular endothelial function, and further improve the pregnancy outcome.PMID:36277012 | PMC:PMC9584663 | DOI:10.1155/2022/9317114 (Source: Computational and Mathematical Methods in Medicine)

Pharmacokinetics of the most commonly used antihypertensive drugs throughout pregnancy methyldopa, labetalol, and nifedipine: a systematic review
ConclusionWe conclude that despite decades of prescribing methyldopa, labetalol, and nifedipine throughout pregnancy, descriptions of their PK during pregnancy are hampered by a large heterogeneity in the low number of available studies. Aiming for evidence-based and personalized dosing of antihypertensive medication in the future, further studies on the relationship of both PK and pharmacodynamics (including the optimal blood pressure targeting) during pregnancy and pregnancy-related pathology are urgently needed to prevent undertreatment, overtreatment, and side effects.
