Preparation of pH-sensitive porous polylactic acid-based medical dressing with self-pumping function
In this study, we fabricated a pH-sensitive colorimetric chronic wound dressing with self-pumping function using electrostatic spinning technology. It consisted of three layers: a polylactic acid-curcumin (PCPLLA) hydrophobic layer, a hydrolyzed polyacrylonitrile (HPAN) transfer layer, and a polyacrylonitrile-purple kale anthocyanin (PAN-PCA) hydrophilic layer. The results showed that the preparation of porous PLLA fiber membrane loaded with 0.2 % Cur was achieved by adjusting the spinning-related parameters, which could ensure that the composite dressing had sufficient anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antioxidant prop...

The Oral –Lung Microbiome Axis in Connective Tissue Disease-Related Interstitial Lung Disease
Semin Respir Crit Care Med DOI: 10.1055/s-0044-1785673Connective tissue disease-related interstitial lung disease (CTD-ILD) is a frequent and serious complication of CTD, leading to high morbidity and mortality. Unfortunately, its pathogenesis remains poorly understood; however, one intriguing contributing factor may be the microbiome of the mouth and lungs. The oral microbiome, which is a major source of the lung microbiome through recurrent microaspiration, is altered in ILD patients. Moreover, in recent years, several lines of evidence suggest that changes in the oral and lung microbiota modulate the pulmonary immune re...

Rh(III)-catalysed C-H annulation of cis-stilbene acids with 2-diazo-1,3-diketones: A facile access to 6,7-dihydrobenzofuran-4(5H)-one and α-pyrone scaffolds
Org. Biomol. Chem., 2024, Accepted Manuscript DOI: 10.1039/D4OB00151F, PaperShankaraiah Nagula, Mary Sravani Galla, Nandini B. Kale, Akshay Kumawat, Darshana Bora An efficient Rh(III)-catalysed C-H functionalization, tandem annulation of cis-stilbene acids using 2-diazo-1,3-diketones was devised. The protocol has solely afforded 6,7-dihydrobenzofuran-4(5H)-ones using alicyclic diazocarbonyls via decarbonylation and α-pyrones with aliphatic diazo... Elemental composition and potential health risk of vegetable cultivated in residential area situated close to abandoned gold mine dump: Characteristics of soil quality on the vegetables
This study mainly aimed to investigate the elemental distribution of both toxic and essential elements in soils and leafy vegetables (Brassica oleracea) collected from eight different sites around the Davidsonville residential area, located closer to the abandoned Princess gold mine dump, Johannesburg, South Africa. The nutritional value of vegetables in the human diet was determined to assess their value to their health. The vegetables contained metals in the following descending order: Ca > Mg > Ca > Sb > Pb > Fe > Mo > Cr > Se > As > V > Ni > Co > Cd. The bioaccumulation factor (BA...

Molecules, Vol. 29, Pages 1727: Studies on the Effects of Fermentation on the Phenolic Profile and Biological Activity of Three Cultivars of Kale
This study aimed to investigate how different treatments (spontaneous fermentation or fermentation with the use of starter culture) affect phenolic content, antioxidant potential, and cholinesterase inhibitory activity in different kale cultivars: ‘Halbhoner Grüner Krauser’, ‘Scarlet’, and ‘Nero di Toscana’. Chosen samples were further tested for their protective potential against the Caco-2 cell line. HPLC-MS analysis revealed that the fermentation affected the composition of polyphenolic compounds, leading to an increase in t...

Spinocerebellar ataxia subtype 40: Report of a case and review of literature
Spinocerebellar ataxias (SCA) are a group of neurodegenerative disorders and are clinically and genetically heterogeneous. Based on the genetic variation, SCAs are grouped into three main categories: i. SCAs caused by expansion of trinucleotides (CAG/polyQ) repeats in the coding region of genes, ii. SCAs caused by repetitive amplification of non-coding regions, and ii. SCAs caused by conventional sequence variants [1]. SCA40 (OMIM # 616053), which is one of the recently described types of autosomal dominant (AD) SCA, belongs to the third category and is caused by heterozygous pathogenic variants in the CCDC88C gene (OMIM *...
