Outcome of individuals with alcoholic cirrhosis hospitalized with first decompensation and their predictors
CONCLUSIONS: There is significant heterogeneity in the type of decompensation in individuals with alcoholic cirrhosis. We observed significantly high mortality rate among alcoholic participants hospitalized with initial decompensation; deaths occurring in more than one-third of study participants within 90 days.PMID:38577860 | PMC:PMC11050755 | DOI:10.4103/ijmr.ijmr_1690_22 (Source: The Indian Journal of Medical Research)

Maintaining the cultivation of vegetables with low Pb accumulation while remediating the soil of an allotment garden (Nantes, France) by phytoextraction
This study identifies possible avenues of research to improve this cropping system by using appropriate vegetables that will allow food production to continue on moderately contaminated soil while cleaning it up.PMID:38573580 | DOI:10.1007/s11356-024-33104-4 (Source: Environmental Science and Pollution Research International)

89. Normalizing Normal: Vulvar Anatomy and Medical Education
Given medical education's focus on disease identification and investigation, it is not surprising normal variations of vulvar anatomy are frequently mislabeled as pathology. A need for improved education on this topic has been identified by medical learners. Yet, the most widely used education materials lack anatomic detail and skin of color inclusion. We explored medical students' abilities to identify normal vulvar anatomy, to discover where students access supplementary education and opportunities for curriculum enhancement. Re-Branding Yoga: The Development of a ‘High Intensity Stretching’ Program for Veterans with Chronic Low Back Pain
Yoga is a front-line treatment for low back pain, however, yoga adoption among Veterans remains low. One potential barrier to adoption may be Veteran perceptions of yoga, including often inaccurate beliefs of what engaging in yoga entails and how participation may be viewed by others. Our objective was to develop an alternative yoga program for Veterans with chronic low back pain, to facilitate their uptake and sustained use of yoga. Challenges Addressing Lung Cancer Screening for Patients With Multimorbidity in Primary Care: A Qualitative Study
CONCLUSIONS: Shared decision-making conversations about lung cancer screening differed substantially from the standard for patients with complex comorbidities. Future research should include efforts to characterize the risks and benefits of LCS in patients with comorbidities to inform guidelines and clinical application.PMID:38527820 | DOI:10.1370/afm.3080 (Source: Annals of Family Medicine)
