Infection with Hepatitis B Virus May Increase the Serum Concentrations of Osteopontin
Conclusions: Infection with HBV may increase the serum concentrations of OPN. The association of OPN and HCC may be not attributable to tumor development per se but, rather, to HBV infection.Intervirology (Source: Intervirology)

Sequence Variations of Epstein-Barr Virus-Encoded Small Noncoding RNA and Latent Membrane Protein 1 in Hematologic Tumors in Northern China
Conclusion: The distribution of EBV 1/2, F/f, EBER, and LMP1 subtypes in leukemia and MDS was similar to that in the background population in Northern China, which means that these subtypes may be rather region-restricted but not associated with leukemia and MDS pathogenesis.Intervirology (Source: Intervirology)

Viruria of Human BK Virus and John Cunningham Virus among Renal Transplant Recipients and Healthy Control in Southeast of Caspian Sea
Discussion: The results obtained here show a relatively lower prevalence of BKV and JCV in immunocompromised renal transplant receivers and healthy control than those reported from other areas in Iran. JCV genotyping was evaluated for the first time in Iran. Genotype I for JCV and genotype II for BKV were dominant genotypes in the north of Iran.Intervirology (Source: Intervirology)

Identification of Polyomaviruses in Skin Cancers
Conclusion: This study demonstrated the presence of PyVs in different skin tumours; however, no association of any PyVs found in any skin tumour with epidemiological data could be shown. Further studies are still needed to elucidate the mechanisms of PyVs in skin carcinogenesis.Intervirology (Source: Intervirology)

First Detection of a Cluster Novel HIV-1 Second-Generation Recombinant (CRF01_AE/CRF07_BC) among Men Who Have Sex with Men in Nanjing, Eastern China
Conclusion: The continued emergence of novel recombinant HIV-1 strains in Nanjing suggests dynamics and complexity in the HIV epidemic among MSM in Jiangsu province. Further investigations and molecular epidemiological research should be taken to monitor and understand transmission networks among MSM.Intervirology (Source: Intervirology)

Structures of SARS-CoV-2 RNA-Binding Proteins and Therapeutic Targets
Background: The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) epidemic has resulted in thousands of infections and deaths worldwide. Several therapies are currently undergoing clinical trials for the treatment of SARS-CoV-2 infection. However, the development of new drugs and the repositioning of existing drugs can only be achieved after the identification of potential therapeutic targets within structures, as this strategy provides the most precise solution for developing treatments for sudden epidemic infectious diseases.Summary: In the current investigation, crystal and cryo-electron microscopy structures...

Prevalence and Genetic Diversity of < b > < i > Aichi Virus 1 < /i > < /b > from Urban Wastewater in Senegal
In this study, raw, decanted, and treated wastewater samples from a wastewater treatment plant in an urban area of Dakar, Senegal, were collected. AiV-1 was detected in raw (70%, 14/20), decanted (68.4%, 13/19), and treated (59.3%, 16/27) samples, revealing a noticeable resistance of AiV-1 to chlorine-based treatment. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that all sequences clustered within genotype B. Our study presents the first report on the detection of AiV-1 in the environment of Dakar and constitutes indirect evidence of virus circulation in the population.Intervirology (Source: Intervirology)

Survey of BK Virus in Renal Transplant Recipients in Iran: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Conclusion: Our analysis provides a preliminary estimate of the epidemiology of BKV infection in RT recipients in Iran. These results arouse a need for more epidemiological studies of BKV infection in different unanalyzed regions in Iran. Early detection of BKV in RT recipients helps timely nephropathy diagnosis and prevents graft loss.Intervirology (Source: Intervirology)

Chandipura Virus ’ Oncolytic Potential in Experimentally Induced Tumor in Mice
Chandipura virus (CHPV) is a tropical pathogen, suggesting its involvement in childhood encephalitis syndrome in India. No reports are available in adult human beings for its pathogenicity. Similarly, in adult mice, the virus does not develop pathogenesis by parenteral route except for intracranial route of infection. The virus is remarkably nonpathogenic to adult immunocompromised nude mice. In vitro in tissue culture, the CHPV infects and kills many types of cells. All of these properties could qualify the CHPV to be a candidate virus for tumor therapy. To prove this, an experimentally induced tumor in a mouse was infect...
