MDMA alone affects sensorimotor and prepulse inhibition responses in mice and rats: tips in the debate on potential MDMA unsafety in human activity
ConclusionsWithin the ongoing debate on the safety of recreational abuse of MDMA, our results reveal acute prominent changes in sensorimotor and attentional performance, sensor response to external stimuli, and locomotor activity due to a single administration of a dose of MDMA (corresponding to a dose producing in humans both ‘desirable’ entactogenic effects and physiological adverse effects). Simultaneous determination of selegiline, desmethylselegiline, R / S -methamphetamine, and R / S -amphetamine in oral fluid by LC/MS/MS
AbstractPurposeIt is crucial for forensic analysis to differentiate clinical use from illegal abuse. Selegiline (SG) is mainly metabolized to desmethylselegiline (DM-SG),R-( −)-methamphetamine (R-MA) and R-(−)amphetamine (R-AM); while abused methamphetamine and amphetamine mainly contain theS-(+)-form. The aim of this study was to simultaneously determine SG, DM-SG,R/S-MA, andR/S-AM in human oral fluid (OF) and to differentiate clinical use from illegal use. We also aim to apply the present method to the OF samples from authentic cases in forensic toxicology.MethodsLiquid –liquid extraction and liquid chromatography-...

Effects of aromatic ring-substituted phenethylamines on the release of dopamine and serotonin
ConclusionsWe found that new psychoactive phenethylamines, with a variety of aromatic ring substitutions, affected the extracellular levels of DA, 5-HT, and/or their metabolites in the nucleus accumbens of rats to varying degrees and in different ways. The current results may assist further research into monoamine neurotransmitter-related mechanisms of new psychoactive phenethylamines.Graphical abstract (Source: Forensic Toxicology)

Postmortem detection of rocuronium and sugammadex by LC/MS in the blood of a patient who died on postoperative day 8
ConclusionsWhen a muscle relaxant is detected in a forensic sample, the presence of its reversal agent should also be investigated. (Source: Forensic Toxicology)

Liquid chromatography –mass spectrometry studies on the isomeric 1-fluorobenzyl-3-naphthoyl-indoles: FUB-JWH-018 and five isomers
ConclusionsThe use of ESI-QqQ-MS and ESI-IT-TOF-MS in its positive ion mode coupled with LC using a pentafluorophenylpropyl-bonded silica column is applicable to MS-aided differentiation and the chromatographic separation of FUB-JWH-018 positional isomers. (Source: Forensic Toxicology)

Detection of in utero ethanol exposure via ethyl glucuronide and ethyl sulfate analysis in umbilical cord and placenta
ConclusionsWe developed and validated a sensitive and specific method for the determination of EtG and EtS in umbilical cord and placenta. To date, this is the first method to investigate both direct metabolites of ethanol in umbilical cord and placenta samples for prenatal ethanol exposure. (Source: Forensic Toxicology)
