Optimal combination of right ventricular functional parameters using echocardiography in pulmonary arterial hypertension
ConclusionsThe combination models for RV function outperformed any single parameter in identifying the risk profile of patients with PAH. Comprehensive assessment of RV –pulmonary artery coupling using multiparametric methods is clinically meaningful in patients with PAH. (Source: ESC Heart Failure)

Socio ‐economic position, multimorbidity, and health care utilization among Danish left ventricular assist device patients
ConclusionsAmong patients who underwent LVAD implantation, health care utilization was high in the early post-LVAD discharge phase and was influenced by socio-economic position. Multimorbidity influenced the number of in-hospital days and redeemed prescriptions during the 2  year follow-up. (Source: ESC Heart Failure)

Impact of epicardial adipose tissue on cardiac function and morphology in patients with diastolic dysfunction
ConclusionsPatients with diastolic dysfunction and increased EAT show more pronounced signs of diastolic functional failure and adverse structural remodelling. Despite similar morphological characteristics, patients with high EAT show significant cardiac functional impairment, in particular in the atria. Our results indicate that regionally increased EAT directly induces atrial functional failure, which represents a distinct pathophysiological feature in HFpEF. (Source: ESC Heart Failure)

Systemic sclerosis is associated with increased in ‐patient mortality in patients hospitalized for heart failure
ConclusionsIn patients hospitalized for HF, those with SSc were noted to have higher odds of in-hospital mortality than those without SSc. Patients with HF and SSc were more likely to be younger, female, and have higher rates of co-morbid interstitial lung disease and pulmonary hypertension at baseline with fewer traditional cardiovascular risk factors. Renal ultrasonography predicts worsening renal function in patients with heart failure under tolvaptan administration
ConclusionsTolvaptan increased the PSV and EDV of the interlobar artery, which may mean tolvaptan increased renal blood flow. The renal artery AT may be a surrogate for worsening renal function. (Source: ESC Heart Failure)

U ‐shaped association between serum calcium and in‐hospital mortality in patients with congestive heart failure
ConclusionsOur study identifies a U-shaped association between serum calcium levels and in-hospital mortality in CHF patients, with a notable inflection point at 8.35  mg/dL. Further investigation through prospective, randomized, and controlled studies is warranted to validate the findings presented in this study. (Source: ESC Heart Failure)

Immediate pharmacotherapy intensification after cardiac resynchronization therapy: incidence, characteristics, and impact
ConclusionsImmediate intensification of HF medication was achieved in 54% of CRT recipients and was significantly higher in patients without excessive QRS prolongation, preserved renal function, and dilated cardiomyopathy than others. In patients with LBBB morphology and QRS  ≥ 120 ms, IPI was associated with a significantly better prognosis and fewer HF hospitalizations after CRT implantation than others. Histopathology of congestive nephropathy: a case description and literature review
AbstractCongestive nephropathy is an underappreciated manifestation of cardiorenal syndrome and is characterized by a potentially reversible kidney dysfunction caused by a reduced renal venous outflow secondary to right-sided heart failure or intra-abdominal hypertension. To date, the histological diagnostic criteria for congestive nephropathy have not been defined. We herein report a case of acute renal dysfunction following cardiac allograft failure and present a review of the relevant literature to elucidate the current understanding of the disease. Our case demonstrated that congestion-driven nephropathy may be histopa...

Excess renin is attributed to the combination of forward and backward failure in HFrEF
ConclusionsWhile unrelated to classical indices of HF severity, circulating renin levels increase with the worsening of RVF, especially in the combined presence of forward and backward failure. This might explain normal renin levels in HFrEF patients but also excess renin levels in poor haemodynamic conditions. (Source: ESC Heart Failure)

Loop diuretic down ‐titration at discharge in patients hospitalized for acute heart failure
ConclusionsIn patients hospitalized for AHF, furosemide down-titration does not imply an increased risk of mortality and/or heart failure readmission. However, FO status modifies the effect of down-titration on the outcome. In patients with severe congestion or residual congestion at discharge, down-titration was associated with an increased risk of mortality and/or heart failure readmission. (Source: ESC Heart Failure)

Effects of pharmacological interventions on mortality in patients with Takotsubo syndrome: a report from the SWEDEHEART registry
ConclusionsOur findings suggest that some medications commonly used to treat TS are associated with higher mortality, while others have lower mortality. These results could inform clinical decision-making and improve patient outcomes in TS. Further research is warranted to validate these findings and to identify optimal pharmacological interventions for patients with TS. (Source: ESC Heart Failure)
