Systemic vascular resistance predicts high ‐output cardiac failure in patients with high‐flow arteriovenous fistula
ConclusionsIn patients with high-flow AV access, low eSVR values obtained through non-invasive Doppler echocardiography were associated with a high rate of HOCF hospitalizations. Therefore, routine eSVR screening in these patients might expedite the diagnosis of HOCF. (Source: ESC Heart Failure)

Dapagliflozin treatment and cardiovascular outcome in RBP4/TTRVal30Met (transthyretin cardiac amyloidosis) mice
ConclusionsDapagliflozin did not improve cardiovascular prognosis including the progression of heart failure, cardiac inflammation, and pathological changes in ATTR-CA mice compared with placebo. The results of this study were not in support of dapagliflozin's therapeutic effects for ATTR-CA. More pre-clinical and clinical researches to validate these findings and demonstrate the underlying mechanisms are still required. (Source: ESC Heart Failure)

Cavin ‐2 promotes fibroblast‐to‐myofibroblast trans‐differentiation and aggravates cardiac fibrosis
ConclusionsCavin-2 loss suppressed fibroblast trans-differentiation into myofibroblasts through the TGF- β/Smad signalling. The loss of Cavin-2 in cardiac fibroblasts suppresses cardiac fibrosis and may maintain cardiac function. (Source: ESC Heart Failure)

Cardiac reverse remodelling by imaging parameters with recent changes to guideline medical therapy in heart failure
AbstractRecently established heart failure therapies, including sodium glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitors, angiotensin-neprilysin inhibitors, and cardiac resynchronization therapy, have led to both clinical and structural improvements. Reverse remodelling describes the structural and functional responses to therapy and has been shown to correlate with patients' clinical response, acting as a biomarker for treatment success. The introduction of these new therapeutic agents in addition to advances in non-invasive cardiac imaging has led to an expansion in the evaluation and the validation of cardiac reverse remodelling. Met...

MicroRNA ‐30d and ‐483‐3p for bi‐ventricular remodelling and miR‐126‐3p for pulmonary hypertension in advanced heart failure
ConclusionsIn patients with DCM, few miRNAs are co-expressed in serum and tissue: They are related to LV remodelling (miR-30d), post-capillary pulmonary artery pressure (miR-126-3p), and right ventricular remodelling/filling pressures (miR-483-3p). Further studies are needed to confirm their role in diagnosis, prognosis or as therapeutic targets in heart failure with reduced ejection fraction. (Source: ESC Heart Failure)

Cushing's syndrome presenting as non ‐atherosclerotic myocardial infarction and heart failure
AbstractCushing's syndrome is a rare cause of myocardial infarction and heart failure. Herein, we report a female patient who presented acute myocardial infarction and heart failure with reduced ejection fraction. The patient was found to have hypercortisolism secondary to adrenocortical adenoma and responded well to therapy. This case underlines the effects of hypercortisolism on the cardiovascular system. The clinical presentation of this patient is unique because non-atherosclerotic myocardial infarction is rarely reported in Cushing's syndrome patients. (Source: ESC Heart Failure)

International Physical Activity Questionnaire Short Form and accelerometer ‐assessed physical activity: concurrent validity using six cut‐points in HF patients
ConclusionsModerate to vigorous PA measures using IPAQ-SF and accelerometers are not equivalent, and we do not encourage researchers to use IPAQ-SF alone when assessing PA in HF patients. Moreover, applying personalized collection and processing criteria is important when assessing PA in HF patients. We recommend following the 24  h protocol and selecting cut-points calibrated in patients with cardiovascular diseases. Finally, it is necessary to develop a new tailored questionnaire that considers walking intensity and is adjusted to the current World Health Organisation recommendations, which use non-bouted metrics. Biochemical and biophysical properties of a rare TTRA81V mutation causing mild transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy
ConclusionsWe identified a patient with hATTR-CM who possesses a rare TTRA81V mutation solely associated with cardiac complications. The slightly reduced kinetic stability of this mutation indicates its late-onset nature and contributes to the gradual progression of the disease. (Source: ESC Heart Failure)

Uric acid is a biomarker for heart failure, but not therapeutic target: result from a comprehensive meta ‐analysis
ConclusionsUric acid is an independent predictor of heart failure occurrence and adverse prognosis. Targeting uric acid lowering as a therapeutic intervention does not improve the prognosis of patients with heart failure. It may not be advisable to use traditional urate-lowering drugs in young patients with heart failure, and elderly patients should exercise caution when using them. (Source: ESC Heart Failure)
