Cumulative incidence and risk factors of myocardial infarction during 20  years of follow-up: comparing two cohorts of middle-aged men born 30 years apart
ConclusionDespite declining incident MI and improved cardiovascular prevention in general, hypertension remains an increasingly important attributable risk factor to MI together with diabetes mellitus and sedentary lifestyle over time. (Source: Clinical Research in Cardiology)

Elevated systolic pulmonary artery pressure is a substantial predictor of increased mortality after transcatheter aortic valve replacement in males, not in females
ConclusionMale gender was an isolated risk factor for premature death after TAVR in patients with echocardiographic evidence of PH and severe AS. This could mean that, the indication for TAVR should be discussed more critically in men with severe AS and an elevated sPAP, while in females, PH should not be an exclusion criterion for TAVR.Graphical abstractGraphical abstract of the study (Created with BioRender.com)Image material of CoreValve ™ Evolut™ was kindly provided by © Medtronic Inc. Influence of diabetes and obesity on ten-year outcomes after coronary artery bypass grafting in the arterial revascularisation trial
ConclusionDiabetes, especially insulin dependent diabetes, is associated with a higher ten-year mortality risk after CABG, in contrast to obesity which does not appear to increase long term mortality compared to non-obese. The interaction between diabetes and obesity shows an apparent “protective” effect of obesity irrespective of diabetes on mortality. Both conditions are associated with a higher risk of post-operative sternal wound infections. (Source: Clinical Research in Cardiology)

Effect of sacubitril/valsartan on cardiac remodeling compared with other renin –angiotensin system inhibitors: a difference-in-difference analysis of propensity-score matched samples
ConclusionIn HFrEF patients treated with beta-blockers, sacubitril/valsartan is associated with a relative greater benefit in LV reverse remodeling indices than other RAS inhibitors.Graphical abstract (Source: Clinical Research in Cardiology)

Disease severity, arrhythmogenesis, and fibrosis are related to longer action potentials in tetralogy of Fallot
ConclusionsFunctional and structural tissue remodelling may explain arrhythmic activity in TOF patients, even at a very young age. Surprisingly, clinical acyanosis appears to be associated with more severe arrhythmogenic remodelling. Further research into the clinical drivers of structural and electrical myocardial alterations, and the relation between them, is needed to identify predictive factors for patients at risk.Graphical AbstractCentral illustration: summary diagram of essential study results. Cardiovascular effects of relaxin-2: therapeutic potential and future perspectives
AbstractThe hormone relaxin-2 has emerged as a promising player in regulating the physiology of the cardiovascular system. Through binding to the relaxin family peptide receptor 1 (RXFP1), this hormone elicits multiple physiological responses including vasodilation induction, reduction of inflammation and oxidative stress, and angiogenesis stimulation. The role of relaxin-2, or its recombinant human form known as serelaxin, has been investigated in preclinical and clinical studies as a potential therapy for cardiovascular diseases, especially heart failure, whose current therapy is still unoptimized. However, evidence from...
