Acute pulmonary embolism and cancer: findings from the COPE study
AbstractBackgroundPatients with acute venous thromboembolism associated with cancer have an increased risk of recurrences and bleeding in the long term.Research questionTo describe the clinical features and short-term course of patients with acute pulmonary embolism (PE) and active cancer, previous cancer or no cancer.Study design and methodsPatients with acute PE included in COPE —prospective, multicentre study of adult patients with acute, symptomatic, objectively diagnosed PE—were classified as having active cancer, previous cancer, or no cancer.ResultsOverall, 832 patients had active cancer, 464 with previous cance...

Normal age- and sex-based values of right ventricular free wall and four-chamber longitudinal strain by speckle-tracking echocardiography: from the Copenhagen City heart study
ConclusionThis study proposed normal age- and sex-based values of RVFWLS and RV4CLS in a healthy population sample and showed significant sex differences in both measurements across ages.Graphical abstract (Source: Clinical Research in Cardiology)

Coronary no-reflow and adverse events in patients with acute myocardial infarction after percutaneous coronary intervention with current drug-eluting stents and third-generation P2Y12 inhibitors
ConclusionIn patients with AMI undergoing PCI with current DES and third generation P2Y12 receptor inhibitors, CNR was associated with a higher risk of adverse outcomes at 1  year.Graphical abstract (Source: Clinical Research in Cardiology)

Modelling anticoagulation and health-related quality of life in those with atrial fibrillation: a secondary analysis of AFFIRM
AbstractAssociations of anticoagulation with primary endpoints in longitudinal studies are impacted by selection bias and time-varying covariates (e.g. comorbidities). We demonstrate how time-varying covariates and selection bias influence association estimates between anticoagulation and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in patients with atrial fibrillation. We performed a secondary analysis of the Atrial Fibrillation Follow-up Investigation of Rhythm Management trial quality of life substudy. Dichotomized warfarin use was ascertained at the study baseline, 2  months later, and annually for up to 6 years. HRQoL was...

High neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio is associated with cancer therapy-related cardiovascular toxicity in high-risk cancer patients under immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy
ConclusionNLR is moderately associated with CTR-CVT in cancer patients with pre-existing cardiovascular disease under ICI therapy. Surveillance of NLR during ICI therapy might be an effective and economically biomarker for risk stratification in these high-risk patients.Graphical abstract (Source: Clinical Research in Cardiology)

Real-world experience with ultrasound renal denervation utilizing home blood pressure monitoring: the Global Paradise System registry study design
ConclusionsThis observational registry will provide real-world information on the safety and effectiveness of uRDN in a large population of patients treated during routine clinical practice, and also allow for a better understanding of responses in prespecified subgroups. The focus on home BP in this registry is expected to improve completeness of long-term follow-up and provide unique insights into BP over time.Graphical abstractGlobal Paradise System registry study design. ABP, ambulatory blood pressure; BP, blood pressure; FU, follow-up; M, month; OBP, office blood pressure. (Source: Clinical Research in Cardiology)

Modified balloons to prepare severely calcified coronary lesions before stent implantation: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized trials
ConclusionsIn patients treated with PCI for severely calcific coronary artery disease a strategy of lesion preparation with a modified balloon before stenting does not improve clinical or imaging outcomes compared with control therapy. The different performance of cutting and scoring balloons warrants further investigation.Graphical Abstract (Source: Clinical Research in Cardiology)
