Etiologies and predictors of mortality in an all-comer population of patients with non-ischemic heart failure
ConclusionsIn an all-comer population of patients presenting with HF of unknown etiology, incidental finding of CA stands out to be independently associated with all-cause mortality. Our findings suggest that prospective trials would be helpful to test the added value of a systematic and holistic work-up of HF of unknown etiology.Graphical abstract (Source: Clinical Research in Cardiology)

Clinical characteristics and prognosis of patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction
ConclusionsHFpEF is common in HCM. Compared to non-HF, it increases the risk of LVEF decline and poor prognosis. It may aid in risk stratification and need close echocardiography follow-up.Graphical AbstractClinical Characteristics and Prognosis of Patients with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy and Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction.Abbreviations: ES-HF: end-stage heart failure; HCM: hypertrophic cardiomyopathy; HFpEF: heart failure with preserved ejection fraction; MACEs: major adverse clinical events (Source: Clinical Research in Cardiology)

Phrenic nerve injury after atrial fibrillation ablation: different recovery courses among cryoballoon, laser balloon, and radiofrequency ablation
ConclusionPNI rarely persists over 12  months after AF ablation; however, there is a difference in the timing of its recovery. PNI recovers quicker with cryoballoon ablation than with laser balloon ablation or radiofrequency ablation of the SVC.Graphical abstract (Source: Clinical Research in Cardiology)

Healthcare resource utilisation and associated costs after low-risk pulmonary embolism: pre-specified analysis of the Home Treatment of Pulmonary Embolism (HoT-PE) study
ConclusionIn a patient cohort with acute low-risk PE followed over 3  months, the majority of costs were indirect costs related to productivity loss, whereas direct, PE-specific post-discharge costs were low. Effective interventions are needed to reduce the burden of PE and associated costs, especially those related to productivity loss.Graphical abstract (Source: Clinical Research in Cardiology)

GLP-1 in patients with myocardial infarction complicated by cardiogenic shock —an IABP-SHOCK II-substudy
ConclusionElevated plasma levels of GLP-1 are an independent predictor for impaired prognosis in patients with myocardial infarction complicated by CS. The functional relevance of GLP-1 in this context is currently unknown and needs further investigations.Trial registrationwww.ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT00491036.Graphical abstract (Source: Clinical Research in Cardiology)

Safety and efficacy of everolimus-eluting bioresorbable vascular scaffold for cardiac allograft vasculopathy (CART)
ConclusionsBRS-based PCI for the treatment of CAV is feasible and safe, with an ISSR incidence similar to what reported in retrospective studies with drug-eluting stents.Graphical abstract (Source: Clinical Research in Cardiology)

Real-time cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging for non-invasive characterisation of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction: final outcomes of the HFpEF stress trial
ConclusionsLeft atrial function emerged as the strongest predictor for 4-year outcome in the HFpEF Stress Trial. A combination of rest and exercise-stress LA function quantification allows accurate diagnostic and prognostic stratification in HFpEF.Clinicaltrials.gov: NCT03260621.Graphical abstract (Source: Clinical Research in Cardiology)

Infective endocarditis after isolated aortic valve replacement: comparison between catheter-interventional and surgical valve replacement
ConclusionTAVI patients did not have a significantly higher risk to develop PVE. Our data suggest that TAVI-PVE patients in contrast to SAVR-PVE patients can more often be treated with antibiotics only, presumably due to the lack of a polymeric suture ring.Graphical abstractKey question:What are the differences between SAVR- and TAVI-PVE?Are the current ESC guidelines for the treatment of SAVR-PVE also applicable to TAVI-PVE?Key finding:No significantly different PVE incidences after SAVR and TAVISignificantly better one-year survival and significantly longer survival in TAVI-PVE treated with antibiotics only compared with...

Incidence and progression of atrial fibrillation in patients with and without heart failure using mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists: a meta-analysis
ConclusionMRA use is associated with a reduction in AF risk, especially AF progression. A prominent effect is seen in patients with heart failure, further augmented by therapy duration. Prospective trials are warranted to evaluate MRA use as upstream therapy for preventing this common arrhythmia.Graphical abstract (Source: Clinical Research in Cardiology)
