Body plethysmography – additional information on exercise capacity in patients with congenital heart disease?
ConclusionSpirometry and exercise capacity positively correlate, also in CHD patients. However, body plethysmography does not provide additional or improved prediction and is therefore only recommended in noteworthy results in spirometry to exclude further lung co-morbidities.Graphical Abstract (Source: Clinical Research in Cardiology)

Cardiovascular events risk in patients with systemic autoimmune diseases: a prognostic systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionPatients with SAD present an increased risk of CV morbidity and mortality, which should be considered when establishing therapeutic strategies. These findings support the role of systemic inflammation in the development of atherosclerosis-driven disease.Graphical abstract (Source: Clinical Research in Cardiology)

Incidence of systemic inflammatory response syndrome and patient outcome following transcatheter edge-to-edge mitral valve repair
ConclusionsSIRS is a common finding after MV-TEER occurring in approximately half of patients. SIRS after MV-TEER was associated with a longer in-hospital stay. In addition, we observed an increased 3-years all-cause mortality in patients with SIRS.Graphical abstract (Source: Clinical Research in Cardiology)

Outcomes after TAVI in patients with atrial fibrillation and a history of recent PCI: Results from the ENVISAGE-TAVI AF trial
ConclusionsPatients with AF undergoing TAVI with a recent PCI have a similar risk of ischemic events and mortality, but an increased risk of major bleeding compared with patients without a recent PCI.Graphical abstract (Source: Clinical Research in Cardiology)

LAA occlusion is effective and safe in very high-risk atrial fibrillation patients with prior stroke: results from the multicentre German LAARGE registry
ConclusionsPatients with prior stroke demonstrated similar effectiveness and safety profile for LAAO as compared to patients without prior stroke. LAAO could serve as a feasible alternative to OAC  for secondary stroke prevention in this selected group of nonvalvular AF patients.ClinicalTrials.gov identifierNCT02230748.Graphical AbstractLAA occlusion in patients with and without prior stroke – results from the multicentre German LAARGE registry (Source: Clinical Research in Cardiology)

The effect of a smaller spacer in the PASCAL Ace on residual mitral valve orifice area
ConclusionIn FMR patients with non-complex anatomy, the larger spacer of the P10 maintains greater MVOA with similar MR reduction. Hence, the use of the PASCAL Ace device in patients with small MVOAs might correlate with a risk of both clinically relevant orifice reduction and even iatrogenic stenosis.Graphical AbstractSeventy-two patients treated  for functional mitral regurgitation (FMR) with the narrower PASCAL Ace featuring a smaller spacer (n = 40) or the broader P10 with a larger spacer (n = 32) were included in this study. Using 3D TEE and multiplanar reconstruction for direct planimetry, mitral valve o...

Risk and effect modifiers for poor glycemic control among the chinese diabetic adults on statin therapy: the kailuan study
ConclusionsAmong Chinese diabetic adults, statin therapy was associated with a higher level of HbA1c, and a higher risk of hypoglycemic agent escalation and new-onset hyperglycemia, especially among those who had lower body mass index levels and longer statin therapy duration.Graphical Abstract (Source: Clinical Research in Cardiology)

Discussion of hemodynamic optimization strategies and the canonical understanding of hemodynamics during biventricular mechanical support in cardiogenic shock: does the flow balance make the difference?
ConclusionsTo monitor and optimize MCS in CS, PA catheterization for hemodynamic measurement is applicable. Higher Impella flow is superior to higher VA-ECMO flow resulting in a more profound increase in CO with subsequent improvement of organ perfusion.Graphical Abstract (Source: Clinical Research in Cardiology)

Patterns of left ventricular remodeling post-myocardial infarction, determinants, and outcome
ConclusionDespite early reperfusion and cardioprotective therapy, adverse LVR remains frequent after acute MI and is associated with a risk of death and HF. A machine learning approach identified and prioritized early variables that are associated with adverse LVR and which were mainly hemodynamic, combining LV volumes, estimates of systolic function, and afterload.Graphical abstract (Source: Clinical Research in Cardiology)

Renal function and periprocedural complications in patients undergoing left atrial catheter ablation: A comparison between uninterrupted direct oral anticoagulants and phenprocoumon administration
ConclusionThe type of anticoagulation had no significant influence on bleeding or thromboembolic events as well as groin complications in this retrospective study. Despite observing an increased rate of groin complications, the uninterrupted use of DOAC or phenprocoumon during left atrial catheter ablation in patients with CKD appears to be feasible and effective.Graphical AbstractThis figure was created with BioRender.com.
