Critical Appraisal of Limitations in the Current Definition/Classification of Uremic Toxins
Progress in the identification and characterization of uremic retention solutes has refined our understanding of the pathophysiology of the uremic syndrome. Furthermore, the evolution of dialysis and other techniques designed to remove uremic retention solutes offers opportunities to provide a more personalized and targeted treatment for patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) with an aim to improve outcomes. Considering these developments, a consensus report was recently published that readdressed the 2003 definition and classification of uremic toxins and formulated recommendations for future research to enhance the u...

Association of Baseline Renal Function with Mortality in Patients with Sepsis Requiring Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy for Acute Kidney Injury: A Single-Center Retrospective Study
Conclusion: Reduced baseline renal function may be a factor for poor short-term prognosis in severe septic AKI cases requiring RRT.Blood Purif (Source: Blood Purification)

Hemoperfusion for Clinically Suspected Organophosphate and Carbamate Poisoning in Critically Ill Patients: A Randomized Trial
Conclusion: HA therapy resulted in significant cost savings driven by a reduced LOS among patients with excess ICU LOS ≥7 days. This therapy was also associated with a significant reduction in the combination of day 28 mortality and severe complications including cardiac arrest, organ dysfunction, reintubation, and tracheostomy.Blood Purif (Source: Blood Purification)

Effect of Fludrocortisone on Intradialytic Hypotension: An Open-Label, Randomized, Crossover Study
Conclusions: In chronic hemodialysis patients who had IDH, fludrocortisone administration did not improve intradialytic hemodynamics and did not decrease the incidence of IDH.Blood Purif (Source: Blood Purification)

Clinical Outcomes of Prolonged Antiplatelet Therapy after Percutaneous Coronary Intervention in Chronic Kidney Disease Patients: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Conclusions: Prolonged DAPT might decrease the risk of mortality, MACE, and stroke in patients with CKD without any significant difference in bleeding or revascularization. Additional studies are required to determine whether long-term DAPT could be considered for most CKD patients after PCI.Blood Purif (Source: Blood Purification)

Role of Hemodialysis in Acute Severe Alcohol Intoxication: A Meta-Analysis
Conclusions: It can be concluded that compared with the use of conventional treatment and naloxone alone, the use of hemodialysis on the basis of conventional treatment and naloxone for acute severe alcohol intoxication can reduce the length of hospital stay, coma time, time of symptom disappearance, and the incidence of some complications rate. Large scale, multicenter, and well-designed RCTs are needed in the future to prove our conclusions.Blood Purif (Source: Blood Purification)

Novel Uses for Peritoneal Dialysis
Apart from its use in patients with end-stage kidney disease or acute kidney injury, there has recently been interest in the potential use of peritoneal dialysis for other, nonrenal indications. Herein, we review two nonrenal areas that are currently being evaluated: use of liposomal-supported peritoneal dialysis for the removal of endogenous and exogenous toxins and use of peritoneal dialysis to reduce risk of secondary brain injury following ischemic stroke.Blood Purif (Source: Blood Purification)

Increased Longevity of a Novel Gas Exchanger System for Low-Flow Veno-Venous Extracorporeal CO < sub > 2 < /sub > Removal in Acute Hypercapnic Respiratory Failure
Conclusion: Using a high-longevity gas exchanger system, membrane lifetime in low-flow ECCO2R could be extended in comparison to previous systems but remained below 120 h, especially in spontaneously breathing patients. Extracorporeal VCO2 remained constant throughout gas exchanger system runtime and was consistent with removal of approximately 50% of expected CO2 production, enabling lung protective ventilation despite hypercapnic respiratory failure.Blood Purif (Source: Blood Purification)

Unplanned 30-Day Readmission Rates for Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease: Insight from the Nationwide Readmissions Database
Conclusion: Nationwide, ESKD on-dialysis patients with ADPKD were less likely to have 30-day readmission than patients without ADPKD. Inpatient mortality during readmissions in patients admitted with ESKD on dialysis was lower with ADPKD as compared to those without ADPKD at the cost of higher health care expenses.Blood Purif (Source: Blood Purification)
