COVID-19 Prevention and Control in Dialysis Centers during the Pandemic: A Single-Center Experience
This article provides key points in coping with COVID-19 in dialysis centers during this pandemic based on experience: (1) enforcing infection control management of dialysis centers, (2) training of hemodialysis patients and medical staffs, (3) screening for COVID-19 among patients and medical staffs, and (4) providing graded isolated dialysis to close contacts, suspected cases, and confirmed cases of COVID-19. Efficacy, Safety, and Calcium Balance of an Accelerated Citrate Anticoagulated Membrane-Based Plasma Exchange Algorithm
Conclusion: An accelerated algorithm for regional citrate anticoagulation achieves substantial time saving while maintaining efficacy and safety. The 4 episodes of systemic ionized calcium #x3c;0.81 mmol/L may have been due to recirculation of infused citrate but, probably more likely, are due to the additional citrate load imposed by use of fresh frozen plasma in these sessions. Survival Outcomes of Hemoperfusion and Hemodialysis versus Hemodialysis in Patients with End-Stage Renal Disease: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Conclusions: This meta-analysis suggests that the OS rates of ESRD patients treated with HP + HD were better than those of patients treated with HD. A speculative hypothesis for why this is the case may be that HP + HD can achieve the complementary elimination of metabolites, effectively preventing and treating complications caused by long-term dialysis and prolonging life expectancy. Impact of Extended Duration of Polymyxin B-Immobilized Fiber Column Direct Hemoperfusion on Hemodynamics, Vasoactive Substance Requirement, and Pulmonary Oxygenation in Patients with Sepsis: An Observational Study
Conclusions: Longer duration of PMX-DHP was associated with the improved MAP and decreased volume of vasoactive-inotropic agents compared with the conventional duration. Eight and longer hours duration of PMX-DHP was associated with the improvement in the pulmonary oxygenation. Conclusion: Our study confirms that sST2 is useful for stratifying CV risk in the HD population. sST2 can be evaluated simply as a dichotomous value higher or lower than the normal range, making it easily interpretable. Successful Treatment with Belimumab in a Patient with Refractory Systemic Lupus Erythematosus after Initiation of Hemodialysis: Considering the Synergistic Effect of Belimumab and Immunological Burn-Out Phenomenon in End-Stage Renal Disease Patients on Hemodialysis
Conclusions: ESRD patients with SLE show no significant decrease in transitional B cells and have elevated levels of B-cell activating factor (BAFF). Both transitional B cells and BAFF are important therapeutic targets for belimumab, indicating that patients with ESRD may benefit from belimumab therapy. However, the effects of belimumab may be potentiated in patients with uremia, who may be more susceptible to adverse events such as infections.
