Integration of hepatitis B virus into patients ’ sperm genome and its clinical risks
ConclusionOur findings suggest that hepatitis B virus infection can lead to sperm quality deterioration and reduced fertilization capacity. Furthermore, viral integration causes instability in the sperm genome, increasing the potential risk of termination, miscarriage, and stillbirth. This study identified an unconventional mode of hepatitis B virus transmission through genes rather than virions. The presence of viral sequences in the embryonic genome poses a risk of liver inflammation and cancer. (Source: Andrology)

A Mendelian randomization study on causal effects of leisure sedentary behavior on the risk of erectile dysfunction
ConclusionThe present study offered substantial evidence for a positive causal association between computer use and the risk of erectile dysfunction. However, a definitive causal association needs to be established by further research. (Source: Andrology)

Regional modulation of toll ‐like receptor signaling pathway genes in acute epididymitis in mice
ConclusionThe dynamic modulation of TLR4 and TLR2/TLR6 signaling pathways gene expression during epididymitis indicates bacterial-derived antigens elicit an increased tissue sensitivity to combat microbial infection in a spatial manner in the epididymis. Differential activation of TLR-associated signaling pathways may contribute to fine-tuning inflammatory responses along the epididymis. (Source: Andrology)

Effects of chronic mild stress induced from peripuberty on sexual behavior in male rats, with or without escitalopram treatment
ConclusionChronic mild stress induced from peripuberty, associated or not to escitalopram treatment, altered the testosterone levels and testicular histoarchitecture and seems to be related to the reduction in male sexual motivation. (Source: Andrology)

Summer heat during spermatogenesis reduces in vitro blastocyst rates and affects sperm quality of next generation bulls
ConclusionFrom our data, we conclude that (i) natural summer heat stress during spermatogenesis can affect in vitro fertility parameters and (ii) the observed effects on sperm motility of F1 semen samples suggest intergenerational paternal transmission. (Source: Andrology)

Associations between a paternal healthy lifestyle score and its individual components with childhood overweight and obesity

Sex differences on constitutive long non ‐coding RNA expression: Modulatory effect of estradiol and testosterone in muscle cells
ConclusionsTaken together, results obtained evidenced sex differences on constitutive long non-coding RNA expression and suggested an influence of steroid hormones complementary to other possible factors. These findings emphasize the importance of including both sexes in experimental design to minimize any potential sex bias. (Source: Andrology)

Transmission electron microscopy reveals the presence of SARS ‐CoV‐2 in human spermatozoa associated with an ETosis‐like response
Discussion and conclusionAlthough severe acute syndrome coronavirus 2 was not present in the infected men's semen, it was intracellularly present in the spermatozoa till 3 months after hospital discharge. The Electron microscopy (EM) findings also suggest that spermatozoa produce nuclear DNA-based extracellular traps, probably in a cell-free DNA-dependent manner, similar to those previously described in the systemic inflammatory response to COVID-19. In moderate-to-severe cases, the blood –testes barrier grants little defence against different pathogenic viruses, including the severe acute syndrome coronavirus 2. The vir...
