Effects of Preconception Exposure to Phthalates on Mouse Sperm Capacitation Parameters
ConclusionOur findings suggest that preconception phthalate exposure affects sperm numbers and phosphorylation of PKA substrates involved in capacitation. Future research is warranted to examine the associations between phthalate exposures and capacitation in human sperm. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved (Source: Andrology)

Causal association of cardiovascular disease with erectile dysfunction: A two ‐sample bidirectional Mendelian randomization analysis
ConclusionsOur results, based on MR, indicated that genetic susceptibility to IS, HF, and CHD was causally associated with ED. These findings can inform prevention and intervention strategies for ED in IS, HF, and CHD patients. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved (Source: Andrology)

Kidney function impairment in men with primary infertility: A case ‐control analysis
ConclusionsMild kidney function impairment was found in 9% of asymptomatic and unaware men presenting for primary couple's infertility investigation. This novel finding corroborates growing data on a significant association of male infertility with a poorer overall male health status and the need for tailored preventive strategies. This article is protected by copyright. Effect of near ‐infrared laser treatment on improving erectile function in rats with diabetes mellitus
ConclusionNIR laser activated mitochondria, improved OS, repaired the damage to penile CC tissue structures caused by DM, and improved erectile function in DM rats. These results thus raise the possibility that human patients with DMED may respond to NIR therapy in a manner that parallels the responses we observed in animal study. This article is protected by copyright. Efficacy and safety assessment of traditional Chinese medicine for erectile dysfunction: a meta ‐analysis and trial sequential analysis
ConclusionTCM can gain better responses in improving the IIEF-5 scores, clinical recovery rates, and testosterone levels as an alternative and a complementary treatment, with no increase in side effects. However, more standardized, long-term, TCM and integrative therapy clinical trials are needed to support the clinical application of TCM.This article is protected by copyright. Metabolomics profiling of seminal plasma in obesity ‐induced asthenozoospermia
Conclusion: Obesity could affect the metabolite composition in seminal plasma and abnormal energy metabolism in seminal plasma mainly including carbohydrate metabolism and amino acid metabolism was closely related to obesity-induced asthenozoospermia. This article is protected by copyright. Influence of androgens on the innate immune system
AbstractSexual dimorphism is observed in the occurrence, course, and severity of human disease. The difference in immune response between male and female can in part be attributed to sexual genotype. However, immunological differences can also be explained by endocrine-immune interactions. Specifically, androgens possess the ability of directly modulating the development and function of immune cells. While androgens generally contribute to immunosuppressive effects, this is not necessarily always the case. This review aims to present the current state of knowledge on androgens in shaping sex-dependent difference in the inn...

Testicular torsion in vivo models: Mechanisms and treatments
AbstractTesticular torsion (TT) is a condition in which a testis rotates around its longitudinal axis and twists the spermatic cord. This in turn results in a significant decrease in blood flow and perfusion of testicular tissue. During TT, the testicular tissue is affected by ischemia, heat stress, hypoxia, and oxidative and nitrosative stress. The TT should be considered an emergency condition and surgical intervention (testicular detorsion (TD)) as the sole treatment option in viable cases involves counter-rotation on twisted testes associated, when possible, to orchipexy, in order to avoid recurrence. Possible TD side-...

Surgically retrieved spermatozoa for ICSI cycles in non ‐azoospermic males with high sperm DNA fragmentation in semen
AbstractIntracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI)  using surgically retrieved spermatozoa outside the classic context of azoospermia has been increasingly used to overcome infertility. The primary indications include high levels of sperm DNA damage in ejaculated spermatozoa and severe oligozoospermia or cryptozoospermia, particularly in couples with ICSI failure for no apparent reason. Current evidence suggests that surgically retrieved spermatozoa for ICSI in the above context improves  outcomes, mainly concerning pregnancy and miscarriage rates. The reasons are not fully understood but may be related to the lower leve...

The effect of testosterone treatment on bone mineral density in Klinefelter syndrome: A retrospective cohort study
ConclusionTRT results in BMD gain in patients with KS with testosterone deficiency, mainly at the lumbar spine. However, this effect is limited (0.62% per year). Patients who were not treated with TRT because of sufficient endogenous testosterone levels, showed only the predicted age-related bone loss during follow-up. The need for TRT in maintaining bone health in KS should be evaluated on an individual basis according to the degree of sex steroid deficiency. This article is protected by copyright.
