Risk of Immune-related Adverse Events in Melanoma Patients With Preexisting Autoimmune Disease Treated With Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors: A Population-based Study Using SEER-Medicare Data
Conclusions: Patients with a pAID face a significantly higher risk of irAEs. Further research examining the clinical impact of these events on the patients’ oncological outcome and quality of life is urgently needed given our findings of significantly worse rates of adverse events. Care Delivery in Cancer Patients With Asymptomatic COVID-19 Infection in a Tertiary, Safety-Net Hospital in Houston, Texas
Conclusions: This study supports the safety of our current isolation guidelines for all COVID-19 asymptomatic cancer patients. While treatment delays occurred, they did not appear to significantly impact overall care. Differences in care delivery and health care usage patterns between symptomatic and asymptomatic patients demonstrate the need for continued studies in vulnerable populations. Outcomes of Immune Checkpoint Inhibitor–related Diarrhea or Colitis in Cancer Patients With Superimposed Gastrointestinal Infections
Conclusions: In our study, concomitant GI infections are associated with more severe symptoms in IMDC patients. Antimicrobial treatment did not circumvent the need for immunosuppressive therapy for IMDC or improve the clinical outcome. Concomitant GI infection was not associated with a higher risk of IMDC recurrence or poor overall survival. (Source: American Journal of Clinical Oncology)

Clinical Characteristics and Outcomes of Eosinophilic Colitis in Patients With Cancer
Conclusions: EoC in cancer patients appears to have more diarrhea-predominant symptoms, particularly in patients receiving chemotherapy, but a shorter disease duration compared with patients without cancer. Hospitalization can be required for serious cases. Treatment may be reserved for patients requiring symptom management, as most patients with EoC have good clinical outcomes regardless of treatment. Clinical Impact of Oral Intake in Second-line or Third-line Chemotherapy for 589 Patients With Advanced Gastric Cancer: A Retrospective Cohort Study
Objectives: Insufficient oral intake in advanced gastric cancer (AGC) limits the use of several drugs. We aimed to determine the oral intake status of patients with AGC during later-line chemotherapy. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively evaluated data of patients with AGC who experienced disease progression during first-line chemotherapy administered from January 2012 to December 2018 in a single institution. We defined “insufficient oral intake” as requiring daily intravenous fluids or hyperalimentation. Multivariate logistic regression was performed to identify oral intake-related factors. Results...

Real-world Patterns of Adjuvant Chemotherapy Following Neoadjuvant Chemoradiation for Patients With Resected Rectal Adenocarcinoma
Conclusion: Oxaliplatin-based adjuvant chemotherapy is not associated with improved survival outcomes compared with fluoropyrimidine-only chemotherapy in this real-world study. (Source: American Journal of Clinical Oncology)

The Role of BCL-2 Proteins in the Development of Castration-resistant Prostate Cancer and Emerging Therapeutic Strategies
The development of androgen resistance in advanced prostate cancer remains a challenging clinical problem. Because androgen deprivation therapy constitutes the backbone of first-line treatments for metastatic prostate cancer, the phenotypic switch from an androgen-dependent to an androgen-independent growth state limits the treatment options for these patients. This critical change from an androgen-dependent to an androgen-independent growth state can be regulated by the B-cell lymphoma gene 2 (BCL-2) family of apoptotic proteins. While the roles of BCL-2 protein family members in the carcinogenesis of prostate cancer have...

Is Ultra Hypofractionated Radiation Therapy a Safe and Effective Treatment for Invasive Bladder Cancer in the Elderly?: A Retrospective Single Institution Review
Conclusion: Weekly ultra hypofractionated intensity modulated radiotherapy with image guidance and bladder training is an effective, safe, and well-tolerated regimen for older patients with invasive bladder cancer unfit for radical treatment. (Source: American Journal of Clinical Oncology)

Synovial Sarcoma of the Hand and Foot: An Institutional Review
Objectives: Synovial sarcomas (SS) arising in distal extremities are rare and have been studied using mostly case reports and small series. We aimed to evaluate clinical presentation and survival outcomes for patients with hand or foot SS. Materials and Methods: We conducted a retrospective review of 84 patients diagnosed with primary hand (n=20) and foot (n=64) SS between 1979 and 2019. Progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS), local recurrence-free survival and metastasis-free survival were estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method and log-rank test. Cox-proportional hazards regression was used to ...

Prognostic Factors of Second-line Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors in Patients With Advanced-stage Non–Small Cell Lung Cancer: A Multicenter, Retrospective Study
Conclusion: BMI and the number of metastatic sites were significantly associated with second-line ICI therapy outcomes in patients with NSCLC receiving first-line platinum-based chemotherapy. (Source: American Journal of Clinical Oncology)

Prognostic Value of the Tumor Immune Microenvironment for Early-stage, Non−Small Cell Lung Cancer
Conclusions: This study shows that the adjustment for clinical characteristics is key when evaluating tumor immune infiltration and its association with cancer outcomes. Adjustment for confounding factors modified the prognostic significance of specific immune cell populations in early-stage surgically resected NSCLC cases; clinical attributes may have high relevance on immune infiltration composition. Cost-effectiveness Analysis of Ado-trastuzumab Emtansine (T-DM1) for the Adjuvant Treatment of Patients With Residual Invasive HER2+ Early Breast Cancer in the United States
Conclusion: Relative to trastuzumab, T-DM1 treatment for patients with HER2+ eBC who have residual invasive disease after neoadjuvant taxane and trastuzumab-based treatment is likely to reduce the overall financial burden of cancer, while simultaneously improving patient outcomes. Interaction Between Primary Tumor Resection, Primary Tumor Location, and Survival in Synchronous Metastatic Colorectal Cancer: A Population-Based Study
Objectives: Location of the primary tumor has prognostic value and predicts the effect of certain therapeutics in synchronous metastatic colorectal cancer. We investigated whether the association between primary tumor resection (PTR) and overall survival (OS) also depends on tumor location. Methods: Data on synchronous metastatic colorectal cancer patients from the Netherlands Cancer Registry (n=16,106) and Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) registry (n=19,584) were extracted. Cox models using time-varying covariates were implemented. Median OS for right-sided colon cancer (RCC), left-sided colon...
