Management of Metastatic Pure Teratoma in Chemotherapy Naive Patients With Testicular Primaries
Conclusions: Primary surgical treatment in this cohort of pure metastatic teratoma resulted in good clinical outcomes and the ability to avoid unnecessary induction chemotherapy. It is important that contrary to previous suppositions, patients with pure teratoma of the testis can independently metastasize with teratoma only, without metastatic carcinoma. Alzheimer Gene BIN1 may Simultaneously Influence Dementia Risk and Androgen Deprivation Therapy Dosage in Prostate Cancer
Background: Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) is extensively used in prostate cancer. Yet the risk of impaired cognition or Alzheimer disease (AD) in men with prostate cancer receiving ADT is uncertain. Some studies of prostate cancer and ADT suggest that the risk of AD is not increased. But other studies have found an increased risk of AD and cognitive impairment. Objectives: As the uncertainty about ADT and dementia might relate to the genetics of prostate cancer and AD, the authors used the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) to examine the relationship in men with prostate cancer between genes implicated in AD and genes i...

Cancer Management During the COVID-19 Pandemic in the United States: Results From a National Physician Cross-sectional Survey
Conclusions: The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a majority of oncologists to alter their treatment plans, but the primary motivators for changes differed by oncologic specialty. This has implications for reinstitution of standard cancer treatment, which may occur at differing time points by treatment modality. (Source: American Journal of Clinical Oncology)

Transformational Changes Between Non–Small Cell and Small Cell Lung Cancer—Biological and Clinical Relevance—A Review
During the course of therapy, patients with small cell lung cancer have been noted to develop transformation to non–small cell lung cancer and conversely, patients with non–small cell lung cancer have had transformation to small cell lung cancer or other non–small cell histologies. Transformation may occur after prior tyrosine kinase inhibitors, chemotherapy, immunotherapy or radiation therapy. These changes reflect on the overlapping biology of these cell types and the clinical need for re-biopsy at times of disease progression. The optimum therapy after transformation will depend upon prior therapies received, the ...

Survivors’ Perceptions of Quality of Colorectal Cancer Care by Sexual Orientation
Conclusions: Sexual minority survivors’ ratings of quality of colorectal cancer care were comparable or even higher than heterosexual survivors. Sexual minority survivors’ reports of excellent care were not explained by their interpersonal care experiences. (Source: American Journal of Clinical Oncology)

Comparison of FOLFIRINOX and Gemcitabine Plus Nab-paclitaxel for Treatment of Metastatic Pancreatic Cancer: Using Korean Pancreatic Cancer (K-PaC) Registry
Conclusions: FFX and GNP showed similar efficacy and comparable toxicity in MPC patients. Although the GNP group had a higher chance to receive second-line chemotherapy, they did not have improved overall survival. (Source: American Journal of Clinical Oncology)

Comparison of Radiation Treatment Volumes for Borderline Resectable Pancreatic Cancer in Contemporary Clinical Trials
Conclusions: The wide range of DICE coefficients and coverage indicate heterogeneity in high risk vascular target coverage using symmetric Boolean expansions from the primary tumor. This approach may inadequately cover regions at high risk of local recurrence in BRPCa. A customized clinical target volume that specifically includes the superior mesenteric artery and celiac axis will improve coverage to this region and will account for individual and tumor variability. Development of an Integer-based Risk Score to Predict 90-Day Mortality After Hepatectomy in Patients With Hepatocellular Carcinoma
Conclusions: The integer-based risk score we developed could easily quantify each patient’s risk level and predict 90-day mortality after hepatectomy. The stratified risk score could be a useful addition to perioperative risk management and a tool to improve 90-day mortality after hepatectomy. (Source: American Journal of Clinical Oncology)

Medical Cannabis in Cancer Patients: A Survey of a Community Hematology Oncology Population
Objectives: Cancer patients are using medical cannabis (MC) to address symptoms; however, little data exist to guide clinicians when counseling patients. We seek to define the patterns of MC use among cancer patients, as well as efficacy and safety of MC. Materials and Methods: Cancer patients attending oncology office visits at Beaumont Hospital, Michigan from July to December 2018 were anonymously surveyed. The survey included data regarding demographics, diagnosis, treatment, symptom burden, and MC use. Patients who reported MC use since their cancer diagnosis completed a section on patterns of use, efficacy, and s...

Population-based Treatment Patterns and Outcomes for Stage III Non–Small Cell Lung Cancer Patients: A Real-world Evidence Study
In this study, we describe contemporary treatment patterns and outcomes for a population-based cohort of stage III NSCLC patients from a large Canadian province. Methods: On the basis of the provincial cancer registry, all adult patients diagnosed with stage III NSCLC from April 1, 2010 to March 31, 2015 were identified. Analyses of these patients’ existing electronic medical records and administrative claims data were conducted to describe patient characteristics, treatment patterns, and survival outcomes. Results: In total, we screened 6438 patients diagnosed with NSCLC, of whom 1151 (17.9%) had stage III disease...
