A lifestyle intervention with an energy-restricted Mediterranean diet and physical activity enhances HDL function: a substudy of the PREDIMED-Plus randomized controlled trial
ConclusionsIn older adults with metabolic syndrome, an energy-restricted Mediterranean diet plus physical activity improved the HDL triglyceride metabolism compared with a nonrestrictive Mediterranean diet without physical activity. This trial is registered at isrctn.com as ISRCTN89898870. (Source: American Journal of Clinical Nutrition)

An investigation of cross-sectional associations of a priori –selected dietary components with circulating bile acids
ConclusionsAlcohol, coffee, certain fat subtypes, and fiber were associated with circulating concentrations of multiple BAs among Finnish male smokers. Given the potential role of BAs in disease risk, further investigation of the effects of diet on BAs in humans is warranted. (Source: American Journal of Clinical Nutrition)

Balancing a sustained pursuit of nutrition, health, affordability and climate goals: exploring the case of Indonesia
ConclusionsIndonesia's consumption of rice and unhealthy foods should decrease; food production, trade, and processing should prioritize diversification, (bio)fortification, and limiting environmental impacts; and consumer and institutional demands for healthy, nutritious, and sustainable foods should be stimulated. More granular data and tools are required to develop and assess more detailed scenarios to achieve multiple goals simultaneously. (Source: American Journal of Clinical Nutrition)

Physical activity and fat-free mass during growth and in later life
ConclusionsIf these associations are causal, they suggest physical activity is a major determinant of body composition as reflected in peak FFM, and that a physically active lifestyle can only partly protect against loss of FFM in aging adults. (Source: American Journal of Clinical Nutrition)

Matrix structure of dairy products results in different postprandial lipid responses: a randomized crossover trial
ConclusionsPostprandial TG but not apoB-48 response was higher after MCI Gel, indicating that the type of casein network influences lipid responses. This suggests that the dairy matrix may also affect risk factors for CVDs. Reducing fat droplet size (i.e., Hom. Cheese) did not affect blood biochemistry. This trial was registered at clinicaltrials.gov as NCT03656367. (Source: American Journal of Clinical Nutrition)

Clinical- and omics-based models of subclinical atherosclerosis in healthy Chinese adults: a cross-sectional exploratory study
ConclusionWe report a novel model to detect SA based on postprandial BP and age in a population of Asian subjects at low risk of CAD. The use of this model in large-scale CVD prevention programs should be explored. This trial was registered atClinicalTrials.gov as NCT03531879. (Source: American Journal of Clinical Nutrition)
