Tubular Adenomas of the Breast Are Cytologically Distinct from Fibroadenomas
Conclusion: Tubular adenomas are not only histologically and molecularly separate from fibroepithelial lesions but also a distinct entity on FNAC.Acta Cytologica (Source: Acta Cytologica)

The World Health Organization Reporting System for Pancreaticobiliary Cytopathology
This reporting system is one of the first in a series from various body sites that mirror the WHO Classification of Tumours series and provides an evidence-based terminology system with associated risk of malignancy and diagnostic management recommendation per diagnostic category. The WHO Reporting System for Pancreaticobiliary Cytopathology (WHO system) revises the Papanicolaou Society of Cytopathology (PSC) system for Reporting Pancreaticobiliary Cytology published in 2015 and replaces the six-tiered system with a seven-tiered system: “insufficient/inadequate/nondiagnostic”; “benign (negative for malignancy),” ...

Diagnostic Accuracy of the International Academy of Cytology Yokohama System versus the Modified Masood ’s Scoring Index in Categorization and Diagnosis of Palpable Breast Lesions
Conclusion: The categorization of breast lumps using the MMSI is more accurate and more specific in diagnosing malignant cases, and thus, the MMSI system is more precise and accurate at diagnosing malignant cases.Acta Cytologica (Source: Acta Cytologica)

Cervical Epithelial Abnormalities and Associated Factors among HIV-Infected Women in Lagos, Nigeria: A Cytology-Based Study
Conclusion: The prevalence of cervical cytological abnormalities in our study is lower than most previous reports in Africa. Sexual debut at an early age was significantly associated with cytological abnormalities. It is necessary to confirm the findings of this study through a well-designed and adequately powered longitudinal study.Acta Cytologica (Source: Acta Cytologica)

Aptima HR-HPV Testing of Cytology Specimens Is an Effective Supplement for p16 Staining to Improve Diagnostic Accuracy for HPV-Related Oropharyngeal Squamous Cell Carcinoma
Conclusion: Aptima HPV testing of cytology specimens can be used as an adjuvant examination to identify false-positive OPSCC patients after p16 IHC of biopsies, while brush cytology may be a supplemental method for the histologic diagnosis of malignant oropharyngeal tumors.Acta Cytologica (Source: Acta Cytologica)

Diagnosis of Metastatic Carcinoma Using Body Cavity Fluid Specimens: A Comparison of Diagnostic Panels
Conclusion: Claudin-4 and MOC-31 both demonstrated significant diagnostic value in distinguishing metastatic epithelial carcinoma from reactive mesothelium. The sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of these two markers, one of which is an epithelial marker and one of which is a mesothelial marker, reached 100%. Therefore, a combination of these two markers may be appropriate.Acta Cytologica (Source: Acta Cytologica)

A New Cytology Staining Method: A Fast Approach for Rapid On-Site Evaluation on Thyroid Fine-Needle Aspiration Cytology
Conclusions: Our data demonstrates that BlueStain ® is suitable to provide good-quality slides for primary assessments of thyroid aspirates studied by ROSE. In fact, in some aspects, this new staining method shows better preservation of colloid and cell details, revealing itself as an alternative to the DQ stain variant, upholding performance leve l while being 10 times cheaper and simpler because it requires just one step of staining.Acta Cytologica (Source: Acta Cytologica)

The Charactex Protocol for Blood-Derived Cytological Preparation of Nonhematological Cancer
Conclusion: The examination of the expanded cell population obtained by this method is very rewarding for both the pathologist – who can assess multiple tumor-related variables (like immunocytochemistry, flow cytometry of several parameters, and molecular pathology on cell suspensions and cell blocks obtained from them) – and the clinician.Acta Cytologica (Source: Acta Cytologica)

The World Health Organization Reporting System for Lung Cytopathology
The International Academy of Cytology has joined with the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) to bring together a group of experts in lung cytopathology to develop a WHO Reporting System for Lung Cytopathology (WHO System). This WHO System defines five categories for reporting lung cytopathology, that is, “Insufficient”/“Inadequate”/“Non-diagnostic,” “Benign,” “Atypical,” “Suspicious for malignancy,” and “Malignant,” each with a clear descriptive term for the category, a definition, a risk of malignancy and a suggested management algorithm. The key diagnostic cytopathology feature...

A Retrospective Analysis of the Application of the Newly Proposed International System for Reporting Serous Fluid Cytopathology on Serous Effusion Specimens: An Institutional Experience
Conclusion: Categorizing serous effusion cytology samples per the ISRSFC diagnostic categories reduces reporting variability. The ISRSFC provides a standardized format to predict the ROM and thus improves the quality of clinical care.Acta Cytologica 2023;67:1 –10 (Source: Acta Cytologica)

DNA Extracted from Cytologic Slides Is a Valuable Source for PCR-Based Molecular Tests
Conclusion: The mutation tests worked well for most samples except CytoRich Red Preservative-fixed slides. This study indicates that stained and unstained cytologic slides are a suitable source of PCR-based molecular tests as long as they are fixed in ethanol or stored for a short time in an air-dried condition.Acta Cytologica (Source: Acta Cytologica)
