How do coffee farmers engage with digital technologies? A capabilities perspective
This study points out the relevant role of situated ideas of development in positioning technologies in or out of the farm, and broader digitalization agendas in or out of farmers’ life projects. At the same time, it presents a critique of notions of universality that drive unquestioned quests for technification. In contrast, building on a relational perspective, this study calls for embracing a perspective of multiplicity within notions of development and innovation. (Source: Agriculture and Human Values)

Clinical evaluation of droplet digital pcr for suspected ascites infection in patients with liver cirrhosis
ConclusionsddPCR, with appropriate panel design, has advantages in pathogen detection and clinical management of ascites infection, especially for patients with fungal and polymicrobial infections. Patients with atypical spontaneous bacterial peritonitis benefited more from ddPCR. (Source: Hepatology International)

Eligibility of a novel BW  + technology and comparison of sensitivity and specificity of different imaging methods for radiological caries detection
ConclusionsWithin the limits of the study, BW  + showed great potential for added diagnostic value, especially for dentinal caries. However, the tradeoff of diagnostic benefit and radiation exposure must be considered according to each patient’s age and risk. (Source: Oral Radiology)

Digital resources in the monitoring of patients with cleft lip and palate: protocol for a scoping review
Introduction Cleft lip and/or palate (CL+/-P) is a congenital malformation affecting the lip and palate, requiring long-term treatment due to potential associated complications. For this reason, it is important for the patient to be continuously monitored and followed for health promotion and prevention, as well as improving the quality of life. The aim of this scoping review protocol is to identify and map the available evidence regarding the application of digital resources and technologies in the monitoring and follow-up of patients with CL+/-P. Methods and analysis This scoping review protocol follows the guidelines r...

Integrative informatics analysis identifies that ginsenoside Re improves renal fibrosis through regulation of autophagy
In this study, we conducted a meta-analysis and pathway enrichment analysis of all published transcriptome data to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and pathways of G-Re treatment. We then performed in vitro studies to measure the identified autophagy and fibrosis markers in HK2 cells. In vivo studies were conducted using ureteric obstruction (UUO) and aristolochic acid nephropathy (AAN) models to evaluate the effects of G-Re on autophagy and kidney fibrosis. Our informatics analysis identified autophagy-related pathways enriched for G-Re treatment. Treatment with G-Re in HK2 cells reduced autophagy and mRNA l...

Sensors, Vol. 24, Pages 2831: Pulse Compression Shape-Based ADC/DAC Chain Synchronization Measurement Algorithm with Sub-Sampling Resolution
o Zhang In this article, we address the problem of synchronizing multiple analog-to-digital converter (ADC) and digital-to-analog converter (DAC) chains in a multi-channel system, which is constrained by the sampling frequency and inconsistencies among the components during system integration. To evaluate and compensate for the synchronization differences, we propose a pulse compression shape-based algorithm to measure the entire delay parameter of the ADC/DAC chain, which achieves sub-sampling resolution by mapping the shape of the discrete pulse compression peak to the signal propagation delay. Moreover, owing to the...

Access for all: Research at the National Abortion Federation ’s 47th Annual Meeting
It has been almost 2 years since the Dobbs v. Jackson Women ’s Health Organization decision was handed down resulting in sweeping abortion restrictions and bans in nearly half of the United States. However, the demand for abortion remains unchanged, and, despite restrictions, the number of abortions in the United States has remained steady [1]. Increased funding and support in states that remain friendly to abortion seekers, telemedicine abortion care, shield law provision, and increased public awareness about abortion access have all helped people get the care they need. Subchondral bone fatigue injury in the parasagittal condylar grooves of the third metacarpal bone in thoroughbred racehorses elevates site-specific strain concentration
J Mech Behav Biomed Mater. 2024 Apr 24;155:106561. doi: 10.1016/j.jmbbm.2024.106561. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCondylar stress fracture of the distal end of the third metacarpal/metatarsal (MC3/MT3) bones is a major cause of Thoroughbred racehorse injury and euthanasia worldwide. Functional adaptation to exercise and fatigue damage lead to structural changes in the subchondral bone that include increased modeling (resulting in sclerotic bone tissue) and targeted remodeling repair (resulting in focal resorption spaces in the parasagittal groove). Whether these focal structural changes, as detectable by standing computed...

High-frequency rTMS alleviates cognitive impairment and regulates synaptic plasticity in the hippocampus of rats with cerebral ischemia
Behav Brain Res. 2024 Apr 27;467:115018. doi: 10.1016/j.bbr.2024.115018. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPoststroke cognitive impairment (PSCI) is a common complication of stroke, but effective treatments are currently lacking. Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is gradually being applied to treat PSCI, but there is limited evidence of its efficacy. To determine rTMS effects on PSCI, we constructed a transient middle cerebral artery occlusion (tMCAO) rat model. Rats were then grouped by random digital table method: the sham group (n = 10), tMCAO group (n = 10) and rTMS group (n = 10). The shuttle box and Mor...
