Controlled Mechanical Property Gradients Within a Digital Light Processing Printed Hydrogel-Composite Osteochondral Scaffold
Ann Biomed Eng. 2024 Apr 29. doi: 10.1007/s10439-024-03516-x. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTissue engineered scaffolds are needed to support physiological loads and emulate the micrometer-scale strain gradients within tissues that guide cell mechanobiological responses. We designed and fabricated micro-truss structures to possess spatially varying geometry and controlled stiffness gradients. Using a custom projection microstereolithography (μSLA) system, using digital light projection (DLP), and photopolymerizable poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate (PEGDA) hydrogel monomers, three designs with feature sizes < 200 μm we...

The Information Technology (IT) Infrastructure of the Multicenter Archipelago of Ovarian Cancer Research Biobank: A Potential Blueprint for Other Biobanks
Conclusion: The IT infrastructure of the AOCR biobank represents a new standard for biobanks, offering flexibility to handle diverse diseases and types of biomaterials. This infrastructure bypasses the need for disease-specific, custom-built software, thereby being cost- and time-effective while ensuring data quality and legislative compliance. The adaptability of this infrastructure highlights its potential to serve as a blueprint for the development of IT infrastructures in both new and existing biobanks.PMID:38682281 | DOI:10.1089/bio.2023.0118 (Source: Biopreservation and Biobanking)

< em > Aquincola agrisoli < /em > sp. nov., isolated from rhizospheric soil of eggplant and < em > in silico < /em > genome mining for the prediction of biosynthetic gene clusters
Int J Syst Evol Microbiol. 2024 Apr;74(4). doi: 10.1099/ijsem.0.006355.ABSTRACTA Gram-stain negative, aerobic, rod-shaped, motile and flagellated novel bacterial strain, designated MAHUQ-54T, was isolated from the rhizospheric soil of eggplant. The colonies were observed to be light pink coloured, smooth, spherical and 0.2-0.6 mm in diameter when grown on R2A agar medium for 2 days. MAHUQ-54T was able to grow at 15-40 °C, at pH 5.5-9.0 and in the presence of 0-0.5 % NaCl (w/v). The strain gave positive results for both catalase and oxidase tests. The strain was positive for hydrolysis of l-tyrosine, urea, Tween 20 and Twe...

Rapid examination of lung tissues by nonlinear microscopy
CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrated that nonlinear microscopy readily replicates traditional H&E staining for both lung tumors and nonneoplastic pulmonary structures. Nonlinear microscopy provides many advantages over frozen section analysis and is an optical imaging platform that has the potential to augment rapid pathologic evaluation of resected tissues in the age of digital pathology.PMID:38682548 | DOI:10.1093/ajcp/aqae046 (Source: American Journal of Clinical Pathology)

Quality and Effectiveness of AI Tools for Students and Researchers for Scientific Literature Review and Analysis
This study scrutinizes free AI tools tailored for supporting literature review and analysis in academic research, emphasizing their response to direct inquiries. Through a targeted keyword search, we cataloged relevant AI tools and evaluated their output variation and source validity. Our results reveal a spectrum of response qualities, with some tools integrating non-academic sources and others depending on outdated information. Notably, most tools showed a lack of transparency in source selection. Our study highlights two key limitations: the exclusion of commercial AI tools and the focus solely on tools that accept dire...
