Influenza vaccine uptake in juvenile idiopathic arthritis: a multi-centre cross-sectional study
Conclusion:  Despite variations among countries, the uptake of influenza vaccines remains low in children with JIA. Improving awareness among families about the importance of influenza vaccination may increase vaccination rates in children with rheumatic diseases. What is Known:• Rheumatic children are at increased risk for influenza infection due to immunosuppressive therapy and immune dysregulation.• Influenza vaccine is formally recommended to children with rheumatic diseases. What is New:• This multicentre study showed that influenza vaccine uptake rates remain suboptimal among children with Juvenile Idiopathic Ar...

Exploring the immune-inflammatory mechanism of Maxing Shigan Decoction in treating influenza virus A-induced pneumonia based on an integrated strategy of single-cell transcriptomics and systems biology
ConclusionMXSGD may play an anti-inflammatory and immunoregulatory role by regulating intestinal microbiome and intestinal metabolic small molecules, and ultimately play a role in the treatment of influenza A virus pneumonia. (Source: European Journal of Medical Research)

SARS-CoV-2 and influenza virus coinfections in the Tuscan population during the 2021/2022 influenza season
The 2021/2022 influenza season was not characterised by a well-defined incidence peak. As reported by the Italian National Institute of Health, a high value of incidence of influenza cases was recorded in week 13, but it was still lower than in other influenza seasons. This abnormal circulation was probably due to relaxation of the COVID-19 pandemic restriction measures, which greatly reduced the circulation of respiratory-transmitted viruses, including human respiratory syncytial virus (HRSV). The symptoms of SARS-CoV-2 and influenza are quite similar, sharing the human-to-human transmission route via respiratory droplets...

Design, synthesis, docking, and antiviral evaluation of some novel pyrimidinone-based α-aminophosphonates as potent H1N1 and HCoV-229E inhibitors
Bioorg Chem. 2024 Apr 8;147:107353. doi: 10.1016/j.bioorg.2024.107353. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDialkyl/aryl aminophosphonates, 3a-g and 4a-e were synthesized using the LiClO4 catalyzed Kabachnic Fields-type reaction straightforwardly and efficiently. The synthesized phosphonates structures were characterized using elemental analyses, FT-IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and MS spectroscopy. The new compounds were subjected to in-silico molecular docking simulations to evaluate their potential inhibition against Influenza A Neuraminidase and RNA-dependent RNA polymerase of human coronavirus 229E. Subsequently, the compounds were f...
