Diagnostic Performance of 99mTc-Sestamibi SPECT/CT and 18F-Choline PET/CT in Locating Hyperfunctioning Parathyroid Glands in Patients with Primary Hyperparathyroidism
Conclusion The results of our study showed the significant usefulness of 18F-choline PET/CT in patients with negative or inconclusive results of 99mTc-sestamibi SPECT/CT in accurately locating hyperfunctioning parathyroid glands in PHPT patients. Identification of suitable reference genes for RT-qPCR studies in human parathyroid tissue glandular cells
This study aims to determine and compare the most stable to least stable genes for parathyroid tissue cells. 43 human parathyroid tissue obtained from primary and secondary hyperparathyroidism patients and glandular cells isolated enzymatically by removal of extracellular matrix components. After extraction of the total RNA, cDNA synthesis was performed, then qRT-PCR evaluated 14 candidate reference genes. Stability was determined by RefFinder software (Delta ct, BestKeeper, Genorm, and NormFinder algorithms), and the outcome was evaluated for five groups. Even if assessed with different groups, the most stable genes were ...

Biochemical characteristics and clinical manifestation of normocalcemic primary hyperparathyroidism
ConclusionThe patients with nPHPT show a more favorable biochemical profile compared to those with hPHPT. Nevertheless, clinical manifestations and complications are similar, without a significant difference in the frequency of osteoporosis, nephrolithiasis, gastrointestinal disorders and low-energy fractures. Abnormalities of serum magnesium levels in dialysis patients undergoing parathyroidectomy
In conclusion, magnesium abnormalities play a minor role in hungry bone syndrome after parathyroidectomy for secondary hyperparathyroidism. Patients with higher serum magnesium levels had greater severity of pruritus. (Source: Updates in Surgery)

The Role of Demographic and Clinical Factors in Germline Mutation Testing for Patients with Primary Hyperparathyroidism
CONCLUSIONS: Most patients with onset of hypercalcemia age ≤ 40 years, positive FHx, or other clinical concerns underwent genetic counseling, while most with MGD did not. As no germline mutations were identified in patients with MGD alone, further investigation of MGD as a sole indication for genetic counseling may be warranted.PMID:38459417 | DOI:10.1245/s10434-024-15104-3 (Source: Ann Oncol)

Unveiling the Hidden Stroke Threat in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation and Primary Hyperparathyroidism
In conclusion, this study highlights a marked association between PHPT and ischemic stroke in AF patients independent of the conventional CHA2DS2-VASc score. The potential mechanisms implicated include vascular changes, cardiac dysfunction, and coagulation cascade alterations. The presence of primary hyperparathyroidism should be taken into consideration when deciding the assessment of thromboembolic risk.PMID:38452840 | DOI:10.1016/j.amjcard.2024.03.003 (Source: Atherosclerosis)
