Hypertension is Linked to Enhanced Lymphatic Contractile Response via RGS16/RhoA/ROCK Pathway
In this study, we examined lymph vessel function focusing on contractile response in hypertensive rats. It was found that thoracic ducts isolated from adult (10-14-week-old) spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs) exhibited increased agonist-mediated contraction compared with age-matched Wistar-Kyoto (WKY) rats, whereas lymphatic contractions in younger (4-week-old) SHRs, exhibiting normal blood pressure, were no different compared with age-matched control rats. Tight regulation of blood pressure with antihypertensive drugs (hydrochlorothiazide/hydralazine) did not prevent the augmented lymphatic contraction in adult SHRs; ...

Cyclooxygenase-2 is a critical determinant of angiotensin II-induced vascular remodeling and stiffness in resistance arteries of ouabain-treated rats
Conclusion: The results suggest that, regardless of hemodynamic adjustments, the angiotensin II/AT1R/pSrc/ROS/NFκB/COX-2 pathway is involved in the development of MRA inward hypotrophic remodeling and stiffness in ouabain-treated rats. (Source: Journal of Hypertension)

Hypertensive Crisis in Pregnancy
Severe hypertension in pregnancy is a medical emergency, defined as systolic blood pressure (BP) ≥ 160 mm Hg and/or diastolic BP ≥ 110 mm Hg taken 15 minutes to 4 or more hours apart. Outside pregnancy, acute severe hypertension (HTN) is defined as a BP greater than 180/110 to 120 reproducible on 2 occasions. The lower threshold for severe HTN in pregnancy reflects the increased risk for adverse outcomes, particularly maternal stroke and death, and may be a source of under-recognition and treatment delay, particularly in nonobstetrical health care settings. Once a severe hypertension episode is recognized, antihyper...

Smart pH-responsive polyhydralazine/bortezomib nanoparticles for remodeling tumor microenvironment and enhancing chemotherapy
Biomaterials. 2022 Aug 20:121737. doi: 10.1016/j.biomaterials.2022.121737. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe clinical translation of nanomedicines has been impeded by the unfavorable tumor microenvironment (TME), particularly the tortuous vasculature networks, which significantly influence the transport and distribution of nanomedicines into tumors. In this work, a smart pH-responsive bortezomib (BTZ)-loaded polyhydralazine nanoparticle (PHDZ/BTZ) is presented, which has a great capacity to augment the accumulation of BTZ in tumors by dilating tumor blood vessels via specific release of vasodilator hydralazine (HDZ). The L...

Acrolein plays a culprit role in the pathogenesis of diabetic nephropathy in vitro and in vivo
Conclusions These results together suggest that acrolein plays a role in the pathogenesis of DN and could be a diagnostic marker and effective therapeutic target to ameliorate the development of DN.PMID:36001357 | DOI:10.1530/EJE-22-0493 (Source: European Journal of Endocrinology)
