Hydralazine Associated With Reduced Therapeutic Phlebotomy Frequency in a Nationwide Cohort Study: Real-World Effectiveness for Drug Repurposing
Conclusion: Whether a repurposed drug can serve as a cytoreductive agent for patients who require phlebotomy depends on its risk–benefit balance. We suggest that hydralazine, instead of the hydralazine–valproate combination, is a reasonable alternative for patients who require regular phlebotomy. (Source: Frontiers in Pharmacology)

Hydralazine-Induced Fulminant Liver Failure Requiring Urgent Liver Transplant: Common Drug With Rare Complication
Exp Clin Transplant. 2022 Mar 15. doi: 10.6002/ect.2021.0446. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDrug-induced liver injury resulting in fulminant liver failure is a well-known condition, and many drugs have been documented in the literature as possible etiologies. However, hydralazine has seldom been reported as the offending agent. Our case report is about one such rare scenario of fulminant liver failure due to hydralazine use as an antihypertensive. A 65-year-old female patient presented with signs of fulminant liver failure 2 months after starting hydralazine for hypertension. She underwent extensive workup for the cause of...

Medical Management of Patients With Heart Failure and Reduced Ejection Fraction
Korean Circ J. 2022 Mar;52(3):173-197. doi: 10.4070/kcj.2021.0401.ABSTRACTTreatment options for patients with heart failure (HF) with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) have expanded considerably over the past few decades. Whereas neurohormonal modulation remains central to the management of patients with HFrEF, other pathways have been targeted with drugs that have novel mechanisms of action. The angiotensin receptor-neprilysin inhibitors (ARNIs) which enhance levels of compensatory molecules such as the natriuretic peptides while simultaneously providing angiotensin receptor blockade have emerged as the preferred strategy...
