Hormone Therapy During Infancy or Early Childhood for Patients with Hypogonadotropic Hypogonadism, Klinefelter or Turner Syndrome
Managing patients unable to produce sex steroids using gonadotropins to mimic minipuberty in hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, or sex steroids in patients with Klinefelter or Turner syndrome, is promising. There is a need to pursue research in this area, with large prospective cohorts and long-term data before these treatments can be routinely considered. Mammographic surveillance after breast cancer
Br J Radiol. 2024 Mar 6:tqae043. doi: 10.1093/bjr/tqae043. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEarly detection of local recurrence has been shown to improve survival. What is unclear is how frequently mammography should be performed, how long surveillance should continue and how the answers to these questions vary with tumour pathology, patients age and surgery type. Many of these questions are not directly answerable from the current literature. While some of these questions will be answered by the Mammo50 study, evidence from local recurrence rates, tumour biology and the lead time of mammography can be used to guide policy. Y...

Effects of extended aromatase inhibitors in women with hormone-dependent breast cancer who have already received five years of adjuvant hormone therapy: A systematic review and meta-analysis
DISCUSSION: Prolonged AI therapy has significant benefits in terms of disease-free survival in women with hormone-dependent breast cancer. However, adverse effects and a lack of evidence for a benefit on overall survival must be considered in the decision-making process regarding adjuvant hormone therapy extension.PMID:38453587 | DOI:10.1016/j.bulcan.2023.12.016 (Source: Bulletin du Cancer)

Catamenial pneumothorax with persistent air leak
An Sist Sanit Navar. 2024 Mar 7;47(1):e1069. doi: 10.23938/ASSN.1069.ABSTRACTCatamenial pneumothorax is a spontaneous recurrent pneumothorax that occurs in women of reproductive age and in temporal relationship with the menses. It usually occurs within 24 hours before or 72 hours after the start of the menstrual cycle; however, multiple variations have been described in terms of the temporal relationship. To date, it is considered a rare condition; this may be justified by the limited available knowledge on this disease leading to misdiagnosis. Often, making a diagnosis of catamenial pneumothorax is complicated; it mainly ...

A systematic review of primary large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the prostate
ConclusionLCNEC of the prostate is a rare disease that can occur de novo or transformation from prostatic adenocarcinoma. Most patients present at an advanced stage with poor prognosis and are treated with conventional chemotherapy regimens. Patients who had better outcomes were those who were diagnosed at an early stage and received treatment with surgery or radiation and androgen deprivation therapy (ADT). There was one case with an exceptional outcome that included a treatment regimen of M6620 and chemotherapy. (Source: Frontiers in Oncology)

Differences in Preferences for Drug Therapy Between Patients with Metastatic Versus Early-Stage Breast Cancer: A Systematic Literature Review
ConclusionsRegardless of the stage, patients with BC consistently valued survival gains as the most important attribute and were willing to accept the risk of potential ADRs. Incorporating patient preferences in shared decision making may improve the effectiveness of interventions by enhancing adherence to drug therapy in patients suffering from BC. BCAR4 Expression as a Predictive Biomarker for Endocrine Therapy Resistance in Breast Cancer
CONCLUSION: This study expands on previous findings by demonstrating that BCAR4 expression is associated with resistance to newer therapies. The identification of patients with intrinsic resistance to hormone therapy is crucial to avoid ineffective treatment strategies. These findings contribute to our understanding of endocrine therapy resistance in breast cancer and could potentially guide the development of more effective treatment strategies.PMID:38443227 | DOI:10.1016/j.clbc.2024.02.007 (Source: Clinical Breast Cancer)

The role of modern parameters and their relationship with recurrence risk as assessed by Oncotype DX: real-world evidence
In this study, we aimed to identify classical clinical-pathological factors associated with high RS in a local population, including modern parameters such as current abemaciclib treatment recommendations, HER2-low status, different Ki-67 cutoff values, and samples obtained from secondary primary tumours. This is a retrospective single-institution study that analysed a total of 215 tumour samples. Among lymph node-negative patients (n = 179), age, Ki67 values, and progesterone receptor status predicted RS after multivariate analysis. HER2-low status was not associated with RS differences (p = 0.41). Among lymph node-positi...
