[Abiotrophia defectiva, an infrequent cause of cardioembolic stroke].
We present the case of a 51-year-old patient who suffered an ischemic stroke as a complication of A. defectiva endocarditis, and the cases of CNS infections caused by this microorganism are reviewed. The relevance of the case lies in its singular character, due to the absence of previous valve disease in the patient without a recent history of invasive procedures or surgical interventions. Analysis of dispatcher-assisted cardiopulmonary resuscitation instructions to laypersons in an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.
-Pinillos A Abstract Randomized simulation trial to analyze dispatcher-assisted cardiopulmonary resuscitation instructions provided from the emergency call center in an out-of-hospital heart arrest assisted by lay persons. An analysis of the telephone instructions was performed using a 14-item checklist by two external researchers. Simulations lasted nine minutes. Twenty-one volunteers were enrolled. All of them started resuscitation maneuvers. Telephone instructions were verbalized in very heterogeneous ways. Half of the indicators exceeded 90% compliance. Frequently the recommendation of push hard and fast on th...

The main clinical characteristics of COVID-19 patients are revised here as compared to other coronavirus infections, such as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), emphasizing clinical, diagnostic and therapeutic aspects. [Unusual evolution of reactive arthritis after endovesical immunotherapy with BCG].
cute; JJ, Martínez Delgado F Abstract Intravesical instillation of BCG (Bacille Calmette-Guerin) is a therapy prepared with weakened strains of Mycobacterium bovis and is an effective complementary treatment for high-risk (non-musculoinfiltrating or non-invasive) bladder cancer. Although its safety for clinical use is high, endovesical immunotherapy is not without complications. Arthralgia and arthritis are infrequent, but potentially severe, complications, the early diagnosis of which can allow adequate medical treatment and avoid chronification of the pathology. This case shows the therapeutic management ...

The objective was to identify differences in health between transgender (trans) and cisgender (cis) people using the hospital discharge survey from the Autonomous Community of Madrid. One hundred and twelve trans vs 1,043,621 cis discharges were studied. The main differences were that more frequently trans people had been attended in a single center (55.4 vs. 9.3%), were under 49 years old (75.9 vs. 37.1%) and had used private health services (2.7 vs. 0.4%). Abstract Peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM) is an idiopathic cardiomyopathy that is caused by heart failure secondary to a dysfunction of the left ventricle at the end of pregnancy or in the first months following childbirth. The diagnosis is performed by electrocardiogram, radiography of the thorax and increase of natriuretic peptides. Bedside radiography can contribute with data that help early diagnosis. Treatment is carried out following clinical guidelines for heart failure, taking into account potentially teratogenic drugs. The importance of this pathology lies in that it affects women at a fertile age and is ...
