Deterioration of Hearing due to Hearing Aids
CONCLUSION: After long-term use of HA, there were no significant factors contributing to the hearing deterioration and, overall, the use of HA did not negatively affect residual hearing.PMID:38711305 | DOI:10.21053/ceo.2023.00024 (Source: Clinical and Experimental Otorhinolaryngology)

HIV Screening Among Young Black Men Who Have Sex with Women in New Orleans, LA
AbstractThere are significant disparities in HIV acquisition, with Black individuals facing disproportionately more new diagnoses. Per Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), all people aged 13 –64 should be tested at least once in their lifetime, and men at increased risk (e.g., those who have male sexual contact, multiple partners, have partners with multiple partners, or share drug injection equipment) should be tested annually. The study included young Black men who have sex with wom en (MSW), aged 15–26, and who live in New Orleans, LA. Survey data was used to elicit the frequency and factors associated ...

COVID-19 Vaccine Acceptance and Hesitancy among People Living with HIV: Review and Meta-Analysis
This study aims to estimate the COVID-19 vaccine acceptance and hesitancy among people living with HIV (PLWHA). A search for observational studies was conducted in five databases and preprinted literature. Summary estimates were pooled using a random effects model and meta-regression. Of 150 identified studies, 31 were eligible (18,550 PLWHA). The weighted prevalence of COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy overall was 29.07% among PLWHA (95%CI  = 24.33–34.32; I² = 98%,) and that of vaccine acceptance was 68.66% (95%CI = 62.25–74.43; I² = 98%). Higher hesitancy prevalence was identified in low/lower-middle income countr...

Lifetime prevalence and correlates of colorectal cancer screening among low-income U.S. Veterans
ConclusionNearly 55% of low-income U.S. Veterans reported ever screening for CRC. Variations in CRC-screening behaviors according to veteran characteristics highlight potential disparities as well as opportunities for targeted behavioral interventions. (Source: Cancer Causes and Control)

Bedside clinical assessment of patients with common upper limb tremor and algorithmic approach
Asian Biomed (Res Rev News). 2024 Apr 30;18(2):37-52. doi: 10.2478/abm-2024-0008. eCollection 2024 Apr.ABSTRACTThe diagnostic approach for patients with tremor is challenging due to the complex and overlapping phenotypes among tremor syndromes. The first step in the evaluation of tremor is to identify the tremulous movement and exclude the tremor mimics. The second step is to classify the tremor syndrome based on the characteristics of tremor from historical clues and focused examination (Axis 1). Comprehensive tremor examinations involve the assessment of tremor in different conditions (rest, action or mixed, position or ...

Fast-track interventions for HIV and AIDS epidemic control among key populations: A rapid review
CONCLUSION: Effective interventions for HIV epidemic control were stand-alone behavioural preventive interventions, stand-alone biomedical preventive strategies and combination prevention approaches. Furthermore, the findings suggest that effective activities to achieve HIV epidemic control among key populations should be centred around prevention.Contribution: The findings of this study have policy and practice implications for high HIV burden settings such as South Africa in terms of interventions to facilitate realisation of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) 95-95-95 targets, thereby contributing t...

Novel machine learning approach toward classification model of HIV-1 integrase inhibitors
This study aimed to explore a novel machine learning approach to classify compounds that inhibit HIV-1 integrase and screen the dataset of repurposing compounds. The present study had two main stages: selecting the best type of fingerprint or molecular descriptor using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test and building a computational model based on machine learning. In the first stage, we calculated 16 different types of fingerprint or molecular descriptors from the dataset and used each of them as input features for 10 machine-learning models, which were evaluated through cross-validation. Then, a meta-analysis was performed wit...

Tinnitus in Children
AbstractThis perspective reviews the current state of the art and literature on tinnitus in children, prevalence and risk factors, clinical management, and future priorities for healthcare provision and research. Most research in the field to date appears to be prevalence studies, which have reached dramatically different estimates; this reflects the lack of a standard language when asking about the presence of tinnitus, or how bothersome, distressing, or negatively impacting it is for the child. Estimates are also likely affected by a lack of awareness of tinnitus amongst children and parents. Children are less likely to ...
