Subtype prediction of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma using dynamic contrast-enhanced ultrasound
ConclusionsPreoperative DCE-US has the potential to become a novel complementary method for predicting the pathological subtype of ICC.Critical relevance statementDCE-US has the potential to assess the subtypes of ICC lesions quantitatively and preoperatively, which allows for more accurate and objective differential diagnoses, and more appropriate treatments and follow-up or additional examination strategies for the two subtypes.Key PointsPreoperative determination of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) subtype aids in surgical decision-making.Quantitative parameters from dynamic contrast-enhanced US (DCE-US) allow for ...

Explorative observational study of Dutch patient-clinician interactions: operationalisation of personal perspective elicitation as part of shared decision-making in real-life audio-recorded consultations
Conclusions The operationalisation of PPE, an important aspect of SDM, explores which preferences, values and contexts were discussed during patient–clinician interactions where an ePDA was used. The coding scheme appeared feasible to apply but needs further refinement. (Source: BMJ Open)

HIV Risk Behaviors and the Use of Geosocial Networking Dating Apps among Men Who have Sex with Men and Transgender Women in Lima, Peru: a Cross-Sectional Study
AbstractGeosocial networking dating apps (GSN apps) are an increasingly widespread technology used by populations throughout the world to facilitate sexual encounters. Studies from a variety of settings suggest a possible association between GSN app use and HIV risk behaviors, including among sexual and gender minority populations such as men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender women (TW). However, it remains unclear to what extent GSN apps play a causal role. We explored the relationship between GSN app use and sexual risk behaviors among MSM and TW in Lima, Peru by analyzing data from a multi-site cross-sectional...

Quality by Design Perspective for Designing Foam-based Formulation: Current State of Art
Curr Pharm Des. 2024;30(6):410-419. doi: 10.2174/0113816128289965240123074111.ABSTRACTFoam-based delivery systems contain one or more active ingredients and dispersed solid or liquid components that transform into gaseous form when the valve is actuated. Foams are an attractive and effective delivery approach for medical, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical uses. The foams-based delivery systems are gaining attention due to ease of application as they allow direct application onto the affected area of skin without using any applicator or finger, hence increasing the compliance and satisfaction of the patients. In order to develop...

Accelerative Solid-State Oxidation Behaviour of Amorphous and Partially Crystalline Venetoclax
AAPS PharmSciTech. 2024 May 15;25(5):114. doi: 10.1208/s12249-024-02832-8.ABSTRACTThere is a growing focus on solid-state degradation, especially for its relevance in understanding interactions with excipients. Performing a solid-state degradation of Venetoclax (VEN), we delve into VEN's stability in different solid-state oxidative stress conditions, utilizing Peroxydone™ complex and urea peroxide (UHP). The investigation extends beyond traditional forced degradation scenarios, providing insights into VEN's behavior over 32 h, considering temperature and crystallinity conditions. Distinct behaviors emerge in the cases of...

Examining Force Level Output of Skin-Drive Bone Conduction Hearing Devices in Adults With Simulated Conductive Hearing Loss
CONCLUSIONS: In situ thresholds are significantly higher than audiometric BC thresholds, suggesting that device-based in situ measurement more accurately accounts for the signal transmission from transcutaneous BCDs. PLLs differed from the percutaneous targets and varied between devices, which may indicate that either target modifications or manipulations of device frequency response shaping are needed to approximate PLL with transcutaneous BCD devices.PMID:38748932 | DOI:10.1044/2024_AJA-23-00258 (Source: American Journal of Audiology)

Coping strategies and interventions to alleviate moral distress among pediatric ICU nurses: A scoping review
CONCLUSIONS: Nurses often use self-adjustment strategies for moral distress, institutional ethical support focusing on enhancing nurses' moral resilience, promoting reflective thinking and improving communication remains crucial. Various interventions for moral distress are currently available, but nurse engagement is low and their effectiveness remained to be verified. Future studies should explore what aids or hinders these interventions. There's also a need for large, multicenter trials and ongoing evaluations to create effective support systems for pediatric ICU nurses.PMID:38749499 | DOI:10.1177/09697330241252875 (Source: Nursing Ethics)

Rapid antiretroviral therapy initiation following rollout of point-of-care early infant diagnosis testing, Uganda, 2018-2021
CONCLUSION: POC testing improved EID results turnaround time and ART initiation for HIV-positive infants. While POC testing expansion could further improve ART linkage and loss to follow-up, there is need to explore barriers around same-day ART initiation for infants receiving POC testing.PMID:38750529 | DOI:10.1186/s12981-024-00613-8 (Source: AIDS Research and Therapy)

Aurora-A condensation mediated by BuGZ aids its mitotic centrosome functions
iScience. 2024 Apr 18;27(5):109785. doi: 10.1016/j.isci.2024.109785. eCollection 2024 May 17.ABSTRACTCentrosomes composed of centrioles and the pericentriolar material (PCM), serve as the platform for microtubule polymerization during mitosis. Despite some centriole and PCM proteins have been reported to utilize liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS) to perform their mitotic functions, whether and how centrosomal kinases exert the coacervation in mitosis is still unknown. Here we reveal that Aurora-A, one key centrosomal kinase in regulating centrosome formation and functions, undergoes phase separation in vitro or in centr...
