Investigation of etiology of community-acquired pneumonia in hospitalized patients in a tertiary hospital of S ão Paulo City, Brazil
CONCLUSION: Our study revealed different etiological causes of CAP than those suggested by the Brazilian guidelines. Using molecular diagnostic tests, we were able to optimize treatment by using fewer antibiotics.PMID:37972649 | DOI:10.1016/j.bjid.2023.103690 (Source: Braz J Infect Dis)

Molecular epidemiology and antimicrobial resistance of Haemophilus influenzae isolates from otitis media in Bulgaria
Acta Microbiol Immunol Hung. 2023 Nov 8. doi: 10.1556/030.2023.02126. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHaemophilus influenzae is one of the main bacteria responsible for otitis media (OM) among children worldwide. We aimed to estimate the distribution of encapsulated and non-capsulated variants (NTHi), biotypes, antibiotic susceptibility, and molecular epidemiology of H. influenzae isolates recovered from pediatric OM cases in Bulgaria.Capsule detection was done by PCR for bexB gene, absent in NTHi. All encapsulated strains were subjected to PCR serotyping. MIC susceptibility testing was performed according to the criteria of...

Vaccination Coverage by Age 24 Months Among Children Born in 2019 and 2020 - National Immunization Survey-Child, United States, 2020-2022
MMWR Morb Mortal Wkly Rep. 2023 Nov 3;72(44):1190-1196. doi: 10.15585/mmwr.mm7244a3.ABSTRACTNational Immunization Survey-Child data collected in 2022 were combined with data from previous years to assemble birth cohorts and assess coverage with routine vaccines by age 24 months by birth cohort. Overall, vaccination coverage was similar among children born during 2019-2020 compared with children born during 2017-2018, except that coverage with both the birth dose of hepatitis B vaccine and ≥1 dose of hepatitis A vaccine increased. Coverage was generally higher among non-Hispanic White (White) children (2-21 percentage poi...
