EGFR Testing in Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Lung
Is it true that we don't do EGFR Testing in Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Lung? True according to NCCN: https://www.nccn.org/professionals/physician_gls/pdf/nscl.pdf (slide 17). But I thought we do EGFR testing in all non-small cell lung CA ? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Upper Division Bio Classes During the Summer?
I know it's highly recommended you don't take prereqs during the summer as the material is condensed, but how does that sentiment carry over to upper div. bio classes? I'd like to take Microbiology, Endocrinology, and Hematology, but the competitiveness of those classes coupled with the fact that I'd be utilizing open campus (non-degree seeking) means that the only realistic time I can take these classes is over 2 summers. I guess my only option is to take it over the summer so I shouldn't... Upper Division Bio Classes During the Summer? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Interviewed but planning not to rank !
I am having a lot of stress regarding the following topic and I would appreciate any insight from experienced people or anyone who would like to provide an opinion I had several interviews for hem/onc this year (first time going to the match). However, most of the places are not academic institutions or university hospitals with very minimal research. I am very interested in pursuing academic hem/onc in the future with heavy focus on clinical research and I don’t believe any of the places... Interviewed but planning not to rank ! Vail workshop application
I’m starting my 2nd year hem/onc fellowship. I’m interested in drug development and clinical trials. My goal is to attend asco vail workshop. It seems their website is undergoing maintenance. How should I prepare for that to get selected? Thank you in advance for any advice! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Are the same things going on in radiation oncology going to happen in medical oncology?
Is heme/onc still a good gig? Does anybody have opinions like this about heme onc: FUTURE RESIDENT, DO NOT BECOME A RADIATION ONCOLOGIST!!! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Qs Negotiating first contract
I am going out for interviews soon, apologies i'm a bit naieve as this will be my first contract negotiation process post fellowship. Couple of q's, would appreciate advice. 1) What is the going rate for a base salary based on number of clinical sessions. is it fair to say that 4 sessions should buy 220 (e.g, academics), and 6 sessions 350 (e.g., community)? Are there any community hospitals that expect 10 clinical sessions, or this is only private practice? 2) Is it ok to haggle... Qs Negotiating first contract (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Fellowship termination
Lots to say on this topic but I’ll try to be brief with my situation. Wondering if it is even worth reapplying elsewhere in the future or exiting medicine completely at this point? MD PhD from MSTP matched to research/fast track for heme/onc in a pretty good program. Worked my butt off to get here - inner city public school kid, first gen graduate with blue collar parents. Finished first year of fellowship with outstanding reputation on track for faculty position with a basic science... Fellowship termination (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Paid surveys?
In the last few months, I have been bombarded daily by emails to participate in paid surveys for various market research firms. Some also invite me to review a certain number of charts./cases. These are all heme-onc based. As a poor fellow, if someone offers me >$100 to do something like this they at least have my attention. Anyone have experience with these? I haven't even gone through the screening questions on one to know if I could do it. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Questions during hem/onc Interview
Hello everyone, Would you please share your experience (whether recent or past) on what kind of questions are asked during interview? Is the interview mainly focused on applicant's CV and experience, future plans and goals , or just getting to know the person better with general questions. I would really appreciate any input from anyone. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

chemotherapy prescription
hi all, i am a french resident and i would like to know more about oncology in the USA and Canada. i know that french MD can't work in the USA but there are agreements between Canada and France. My question is about the organisation of oncology over there. In France med onc is a speciality, but they often treat cancers that are not in the field of an organ medical speciality. For instance, pulmonologist treat lung cancer and can prescribe all treatments like conventional chemotherapies or... chemotherapy prescription (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Appropriate Level of Aggressiveness in Hem/Onc?
I have recently been wondering whether I went into the right field, because I often don't feel comfortable subjecting patients to fourth or fifth line therapy when I feel they would be better served with hospice. I am training in a large cancer center where 90% of my teachers push patients to the brink of death, with many to die with chemotherapy in the last 2 weeks of life. Is this an academics thing, or all of oncology thing? Maybe I should do benign heme. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Fellowships to get into Heme/Onc
Hi everyone, hoping to get some advice. So I have applied Heme/Onc and honestly don't have the best stats. Went to a community program for residency. Have few publications (3 accepted, 3 submitted) and some oral/poster presentations. Have not received any interviews yet and I am being told to start having backup plans. Is anyone aware of fellowships that I can do to boost up the CV and potentially reapply heme/onc next year. I have heard transfusion medicine and palliative care....are... wRVU achievable target for oncology private practice
Hi gutonc or anyone. From a prior post, had a query. Couldnt reply in that post. gutonc said: You can get a rough estimate using online wRVU tables and knowing what fraction of the patients will be new vs follow ups. I also suspect that "he" is not getting paid for every single RVU he generates, rather a bonus after a certain baseline (used to pay that $300). I have a similar setup in my clinic and pay structure. I usually see 2-3 new consults a day... Click to expand... wRVU achievable target for oncology private practice (Source: Student Doctor Network)
